Battery drain during hibernate

I may be losing my mind, but I'm 95% sure that I'm experiencing intermittent battery drain while in hibernate mode. For example, I worked all day yesterday with my laptop (Compaq CQ40) plugged in and hibernated with the the power at 100%. I had saved my work, but left three Word docs, two Excel docs, and one Project file open to avoid having to re-open them all to complete a writing assignment. About 4.5 hours later I re-started my laptop to view a movie on my flight, and the batter level was down to 42%!

I think this behavior started within the last 2-3 weeks. I didn't think this was possible! Is there some phantom process running while in hibernation? Ideas?

Confused.

How hold is the battery? Furthermore, batteries constantly lose power regardless if being used. Hot places accelerate this process as does the age of the battery.

It is safe then to assume your battery is past its prime, not fully incapacitated yet but getting close.
You can expect the length of charge to become smaller and smaller as time goes on.
Windows will soon report when its time to replace your battery.
