Logged in today and just saw that the battery icon has gone. So now I don't know whether I have full battery or almost gone, apart from the alerts.

I right clicked the the taskbar above the other icons > properties but the power icon is set to off, and the 'off' button is blurred out, so I can't set it back to on. All the other icons are set to 'on', and have the option to be turned off, just the battery one is blocked.

All help appreciated.

Is your battery good? It might be grayed because your battery can no longer hold a charge.

Have a look here whether the icon is turned on: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Notification Area Icons\System Icons

Or type System Icons into Start/search and hit Enter.

Occasionally i lose my speaker icon from systems tray, jack :D and i find closing and re starting explorer. exe fixes it. open task manager by pressing ctrl ,alt and delete at the same time then select open task manager from the bottom of the list that opens. in the task manager click the processes tab /scroll down to explorer.exe and click it then click end process button . your taskbar will dissapear ,dont panic !
then with task manager still open select file from top left of window select new task run ,and in the run box that opens type explorer.exe and click ok ,this will restart explorer and your tasbar will hopefully have refreshed with your selected systems tray icons showing. let us know how you get on. :D

If none of the above members' suggestions have restored your battery icon, try the following suggestions and take a look at the tutorials below:

Try rebooting your system to see if your battery icon reappears.

If not, right-click on the Desktop, go to Personalize, and then select: Change Desktop Icons.

Or

Right-click on the Start button, select Properties, Notification Area, and under the System Icons check the 'Power' icon. (You can also do this from the Task Bar and Start Menu in Control Panel.)

If none of the above work, take a look at this tutorial:

How to Enable or Disable the Notification Area System Icons in Vista (also for Win 7)

Or you could try these 3rd party apps:

Please use this tutorial. It is a lot more easier and simpler.
