Battlefield 3 gaming rig ?

Its not about bragging rights... Its about the height of technology!

I only play pc games as they push the boundaries of technology and just look great.
If I wasn't interested in visuals and physics then I'd by it for a console. Fact is I can notice the difference.

You think its bragging rights.. I think its just your defence for not being able to...

we can only hope mate. EA/DICE already got our money and they don't care. I wonder why we;PC gamers; are the only ones who are suffering with this. Console kids can play it fine.

whats all this about playing game on ultra/high settings. I think its just bragging rights. look at this video and decide, if you are actually playing game, will you notice difference between low/ultra settings?
I tend to agree, that people are obsessed with having things on ultra when there is really very small differences between low-med-high-ultra.

If there were massive differences, which made the visuals a night and day difference between medium and ultra...then sure...I would absolutely want things on Ultra as well.

On my box, I seem to be able to set my settings to Ultra and can move around the maps I have tried just fine. But I've also set my settings to High, and also set them to Medium and I'll be honest...i see VERY LITTLE difference between the two. Because there is practically no difference that I can perceive between Medium and Ultra...I'm more inclined to just stay on Medium to ensure, without question, that I won't get any stuttering or lag. Upgrading isn't a consideration for me, because why spend money on new components to ensure that I can set the slider to Ultra when i really don't see any difference.

Finally, as a last example, I upgraded my video card from a 9800GTX+ (which could only play on LOW) to a 570GTX. My 9800GTX+ had a problem going full screen with 1920x1080 and was primarily the reason that I replaced it...the second reason was the fact that the fans on my 9800GTX+ were quite loud. But on the times that I could get to full screen on the 9800GTX+ at full screen with low settings it looked great. Once I moved to my 570GTX+, running full screen between High and Ultra practically looked the same visually...it just stuttered less. Am I happy I replaced my video card? Yes. Did it make a noticeable difference in the quality of the graphics...Not really.

With regards to the comments about stuttering, from what I have read thus far...it seems to me that people running with AMD/ATI video cards are the ones experiencing more issues. A friend of mine with a new 2600k, and an ATI 5870 is having some lag within his game...and I don't see that same issue on my Q9550 with an Nvidia GTX570.

i just stuck my cd in, it asked to install origin so i did, it then asked for my battlefield 3 cd key, i typed that in and it installed, followed by a 470mb update (grr took ages on my 1.6mbps) and then just played lol.

only issue im having is my my second scroll wheel on my cyborg mouse doesnt seem to work with it. ive mapped the macro with left control and Z so when i roll it one way i should duck, and prone the other way.. but it only works like once in every 10 attempts!...

Hello, pepeniva.

I would advise trying this site to see at what standard you can run battlefield 3 on your laptop (This is of course for when you do own the game.) I'm not too sure how it would run myself just by looking at your specs Personally, Although this link should help.
Can you Run this?

Hope that helps mate. :)

Anyone play this game on a dual processor system? Haven't gamed in ages but BF3 looks pretty good. Here is what I have:
Super micro X8DTI
2 Xeon X5670 2.93Ghz hex processors
24GB ram
ATI 6950 2GB GPU.
SB titanium sound card.

I've read shutting off hyper threading is recommended. Is it?

I tried BF3 single player on an AMD X3 450 and a GT240 and it played like crap (most likely due the slow GT240). Don't know what the settings were, just left it as is.

I also read about the hyper-threading and I have mine on on my i7 and have no issues.

Quad cores are what the game is optimised for..I have read ppl are having some problems with dual cores..HT on a dual would make it a quad in theory so it should be ok for you.

I'm running a quad so I don't know for sure how you'll go with it.
