Battlefield BC2

Thanks WDAexodus, I am playing the crysis demo at 35 fps on medium settings. I have the Nvidia GTX260M in a Asus Laptop so I know the GPU is good, but still am wary of purchasing newer PC games. the Crysis demo though is small and only single player so I don't know how my comp is going to handle loading a full map or multiplayer. I am usually really busy so I don't know when I will pick it up. When I do though I will look you up (I have had only like 8 hours total game time since I bought this comp in January)

Edit: Crysis Demo: 35 fps at 1680x1050 on my 22" so thats affecting the fps...

ive been playing BFBC2 since the release and i just love this game, its definatley the best one ive played out of all the battlefield games that have been released on pc, it plays flawlessly, no lagg at all apart from a few server issues but even that has stopped now since the punkbuster kicks have been addressed, this game rocks, i have a link to a video i made the other day of me playing on Panama Canal (my Fav map)YouTube - Battlefield bad company 2 multiplayer for pc

Checkout my system specs, i have all the settings in the game on high, aax4, afx16 & HBAO set to on, the physics in this game are awsome:p

I am running low settings with my resolution at 1280 x 1024 to try to get as much frames as possible.

WDAexodus,
I want to thank you for that 1 single line as I was surfing around yesterday, I came across your post and decided to change my bc2 video settings to 1280 x 1024, based off your remark and OMG, my FPS went up at least 30 points!
BC2 played SOOO smooth for me after I made that change, I was able to flick the sniper rifle around and hardly ever missed a shot!!! where as before, the game played kinda mushy, not as responsive.
I was in HEAVEN last night and BC2 is by far the best FPS game I've played....next to cs:s, which will always be my 1st love.

If u truly love fps games and love being immersed in the battle! BC2 is for you!

I bought it and started playing but its kinda weird to me. I have only played CS/CS:S/UT2k3/UT2k4 and CODMW2 as for FPS and its got its own way and methods so will take me a bit to get used to it. I do like it, but just not as much as I think I would if I had a better feel for it.

I would really like to play with some folks who know they are doing maybe help me to get a better feel for the game etc.. You can get me in game at -=BwA=- Element . I am aware they have a special way to do clan tags but my name Element was taken so I just put my old clan tag infront of it.

It definately doesn't play like any of those games at all. You'll grow to like it. Once you get used to how hits register you'll find it to be enjoyable. You might want to try a hardcore server. It's a bit more realistic with damage.

Depends on your tastes?

If you're more of a CoD player, then you might not like it as much as this game, more so than any previous Battlefield game, requires that you play as a part of the team. You basically don't go anywhere without your squad.

Battlefield guys love it though. :D

Patch aside, there is a very big difference in the game going from a dual core to a quad. Just went from a x2 7750 to a x4 630 over the weekend, and what a difference. Average frame rate is up at least 10-15; the lows (heavy smoke, etc) that used to di[ into the low 20's, doesn't go any lower than the mid to high 30's. Even the audio is better now that it has a core to itself.

If you're using onboard sound (anyone in general), the audio in this game deserves a dedicated sound card. Crank the audio up and it's some of the most atmospheric audio in any game I've played. Especially when you set the audio type to "war tapes". It sounds like you're in the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan in heavy gun fights :D

Performance

Naturally, doing all of the audio processing in software puts the CPU under some extra strain. Since Xbox360/PS3 has fixed hardware and both have multiple cores available to do many things in parallel, you could say this is only an issue for the PC SKU where we may end up having less cores than on console. In Bad Company, all audio processing is performed sequentially on a single hardware thread regardless of platform. For PC this means that a CPU with a higher frequency will help more than one with more cores. But of course, there are other areas of the game that execute in parallel, so having more than 2 cores will help the game in general. This is an area we're constantly looking to improve and the results of our efforts will show up in future titles.

All sound processing for this game is entirely software based and done on the CPU. The only thing a dedicated sound card brings over onboard is better components (DAC, etc) which will provide better sound, it won't help at all with performance.

Also,

Multithreading and Quad Core - Page 6 - Electronic Arts UK Community

5. If you truly want the best audio experience, in any game on PC, focus on finding a sound card with a good DAC and make sure you can turn as much post-processing as possible off and that you have some nice speakers. Any "enhancements" made to the signal after we send it to the sound hardware may introduce unwanted artifacts. Our sound designers take great care to mix the game and even master it thoughtfully depending on the settings available in our in-game options menu, so to get the true intended experience, stay away from additional EQs or other effects. This of course goes for home theatre receivers and TVs when playing on consoles as well. They even author specific content for the LFE, so make sure you turn that woofer up! But who am I to say what you can and can't do with your audio!

Is this game better than MW2? I mean because both looks like similar to me but I don´t know if I should buy it

I have been both a Call of Duty and Battlefield player. I believe you will find that BC2 is a blast. DICE has taken things from the COD series such as weapons perks and hardcore mode and added them to what the Battlefield series brings which is team play and large map total battle simulation. You will find the graphics top notch. It has been compared to Crysis is some reviews. The audio IMO is unmatched in any game to date. It alone will take your breath away. There are some bugs, mostly server/server browser related which DICE is or already has addressed with patches. And as for the hackers. Well I am sure they are out there but I haven't seen one yet. PB seems to be holding up. Can't say that bout MW2 which I see regularly. Here's the only issue I have. When playing regular mode it is highly unrealistic at how much you have to shoot to kill a player. Even headshots are multiple shots. I find that dumb and somewhat amusing. Hardcore mode takes care of that and makes it feel a little more like Call of Duty. It's still not a point shoot and hit game though. You have to compensate for bullet drop especially as a sniper or in a tank. Like others have said it is a team game. You will find it extremely difficult to win matches if you are not playing in a squad and using your character capabilities to keep each other alive and stocked up. It has dedicated servers!! I think there are close to 8000 of them online now and it is not hard to find one that suites you. Make sure your pc can handle it and buy it. You want be disappointed.

Have you gone into your config file and manually set your Direct X to 9 instead of auto. That'll give you more frames too. It may allow you to run a higher resolution and still achieve decent frame rates. If you need any help I am on Xfire. wdaxodus is my name. Add me and I can walk you through it. That goes for anybody. It's the best way to contact me. It's always up.

ATI users:

CATALYST A.I. - Disabled or set to 'Advanced'?

EDIT: For best performance.

i've tried both, and it doesn't seem to make a great deal of difference - yet.

maybe when the 10.3 drivers come out (very soon), ati/amd will include optimisations for this game, making cat ai worthwhile - hope so, because this game isn't running as fast as i would like with maxed-out settings at 1920x1080 with my 4890.

the biggest performance boost that i found was disabling 'hbao' (or whatever it's called), although inevitably you do lose some eye candy...

i'm personally finding the graphics a little disappointing overall, especially the awful aa, and vsync doesn't seem to work too well either - i notice tearing whilst knifing, for example. maybe it's something to do with the frostbite engine originally being develeoped for consoles - hopefully a patch will address these issues... (although asking for major graphic engine updates in a patch is very optimistic.)

i personally thought the wartapes audio setting had way too much boom and over-the-top reverb, at least on my ageing x-fi and 5.1 audio system. i'm ok with the 'home cinema' config atm, it taxes the cpu less too.

...and while i'm complaining, i'm partially red/green colour blind, and find it difficult to instantly identify another player as friend or foe just by looking at the hud - instead, i'm starting to recognise the different uniforms - let's hope DICE sort this out in a future patch - something like 8% of males suffer from this problem/condition, it's got to be a real easy fix to program, bf2 doesn't have this problem...

it's not all bad though - it sure is a great game! - single player is fun, listening to the gang's conversations about god, death and brainwashing. there's also a couple of tongue-in-cheek comments about "sissies with snowmobiles and heartbeat sensors". multiplayer is an intense blast that i'm only just getting to grips with (my k/d is atrocious...)

really looking forward to bf3!
