Beep From Behind The Keyboard

Hi All

First time poster looking for some help!

I have a Compaq 615 running Windows 7. Recently, I have heard a beeping sound that isnt too disimiliar to the BIOS beeps on start up. However, this can be heard when the OS is running.

There is no set pattern to the beeps. It can occasionally be 2-3 beeps very close together but is mostly just one beep. It is starting to worry me a little.

Here are a list of things I've done to try and resolve already:

Remove an USB devices that have been plugged in
Clean the keyboard with compressed air incase this was caused by a stuck key
Ran system check
Cleaned up the C-Drive
Ran a HDD check from booting up
Checked eventvwr

All this without anything indicating that something is wrong with the system. Can you help?

are you sure you are using the correct power cord?

i would also try running a memory test like memtest86

It happens when I do certain things in windows that result in an on screen prompt like an error message, etc. Once I install my drivers for my sound card it stops and is replaced by a windows sound coming from my speakers.

Yes, I am using the correct power cord.

Onboard sound is working fine. I havent reinstalled windows just disk clean up and defrag among the other things I explained. Have updated the drivers for sound card but nothing has changed.

From the control panel, click on the sound icon. Click the 'sounds' tab and see if you have any sounds set for programs/events.

I had a look at this and played through all the sounds. The sound that it is making is very similiar to the "feed discovered" sound in this tab but I changed this and the beep still persists.

The beep is also still audible when the volume is muted. Any ideas as the local computer shops want £50 to look at it!! :shock:

Did memtest and showing as 162% coverage with 0 errors before I closed it.

Anyone else help? Starting to get slightly desperate now

Do you have external speakers as well as onboard ones? and have you tried muting everything on both the on-board sound drives, and windows itself?

No external speakers just built into the laptop. Have muted this but no change, still hear the noise.

Just done another memtest that got to over 400% covereage with no errors.

So it boots and runs fine, but randomly beeps during operation?

If so, I'd say try turning off the windows sound scheme, and see if that stops it.
