Hello Windows Seven Forums!

Just got this rather nice but expensive piece of plastic called a Laptop with Win7 installed and now trying to get my Belkin G+MIMO USB Adapter to work.

Part number for Adapter is F5D9050 version 3001 UK.

Sadly there is no updated driver from Belkin for Win7 :cry:

I have tried using the Belkin program in both 'Programs' 64Bit and Non 64bit but without any success.

Although the laptop has a built in WiFi facility I find the signal strength is not that good, however with an external adapter the signal strength is much better as you can line up the adapter with the point at which the signal is being transmitted.

Can anybody help me in getting this Belkin to work please?

From what i can gather you are running Windows 7 64 bit. As you say there is no Windows 7 driver or even a Vista 64 bit driver.

The only hope I can see for that working is if it is compatible with the Windows generic WLAN driver but I doubt it will.

To be perfectly frank I don't think this piece of kit is compatible with Windows 7 64 bit.

If you are having connectivity problems I would recommend either getting a wireless repeater or using an internet-over-mains adapter like I am currently doing (NETGEAR 85 Mbps Wall-Plugged Ethernet Switch XE104: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo).

I would also recommend upgrading to an 'N' router, this would increase the range of your wireless network and the speed at which data can connect be sent through it. The adapter you're trying to use is not 'N' compatible but the one inside your laptop is.

Hi Oli,
Thank you for the reply and information.
You are correct the current laptop is 64 bit.

Although the Laptop has a built in WiFi I have been using an external adapter as I use the laptop inside a caravan and the aluminium bodywork tends to act as a shield and block or significantly reduce the signal.

When using it on a previous machine with XP Pro, I used to put the Belkin in a waterproof Take Away box and mount it on the roof pointing it towards the WiFi connection point, enjoying a much better signal strength.

So really as the G+MIMO Adapter will not in any way work with Win7 I am looking for a USB Adapter that does not require 240V to run it and can be placed outside the aluminium 'can' with the cable coming in through the window seal then into a USB socket in the laptop, but at the moment they seem to be like the proverbial droppings of a Rocking Horse :D!

Thanks again

There is a mass of confused information on the web about this version, written by noobies who don't seem to know what they are talking about!

Without having the USB stick, from what I can deduce, you luckily bought a version with a RALINK chip in your USB adapter. Might be a driver on RAlink!

Download the USB Windows 7 drivers directly off the RALINK website!

Chipset USB RT2501/2601?
Try and see if either of the USB WIN7 drivers get it working. If not try the USB RT2500 Vista 32 driver.

Hi neo101,

In going to the 'ralink site' I cannot find a Chipset listed for RT2501/2601?
There is USB (RT2870 /RT2770 /RT307X /RT2070 /RT3572/3370/8070) 03/03/2010
and USB (RT257x /RT2671 /RT520x) 08/24/2009

I will go and download the Vista driver and see if that works.
Interestingly when I plug the Belkin in the Laptop finds it and loads the driver everytime it is plugged into the USB, however in the properties it is saying that its 'working properly' but is showing as 'disabled' and will not 'enable' when the request is made after right clicking.

Will let you know what happens.

Hi again neo101,

I have just tried the drivers associated with this download and it was 'NoGo'.
USB (RT257x /RT2671 /RT520x) 08/24/2009

The Vista driver download is taking a very long time to download so when it arrives I will try it and see what happens, however I have also been advised that it could be down to an NDIS filter in the adapter settings that is stopping it working.

Will let you know what happens.

That's why "?" after chipset no's coz it woz a best 'guess'!

Don't forget to turn off any 'built in' wireless device in the laptop.

Disable it in "device manager"

Hi neo101!

OK you got me!

I have now tried all 3 of the ralink downloads and sad to say all failed to work.
The internal WiFi was disabled as was the RJ45 LAN cable which I removed, and I also based on other input looked for the 'NDIS Filter' which was not found.

I think it will be a case of procurring a WiFi Dongle that will work with Win7 & I have found one for around £18, which is a bit cheaper than the outside antena on e-bay for £38 especially when you get to 'Silver Surfer' status and it's your 'GB' Pension that pays for it! :D
So hopefully I can stick it in a Takeaway Waterproof container with a 2mtr USB extension cable attached and plonk it on the top of the 'Aluminium Box with Windows of the Plastic Type' It was called a caravan before! :D Bring the cable in and 'git online'!

I hate being defeated I guess like you, but.... there comes a time when.

Thanks for all your help, it has been appreciated.
Best wishes
Traveller.

You prob. haven't had many replies coz no one can work out properly from net info. if you have Ralink or Buffalo chipset.

Both are mentioned under Belkin V.3 USB Mimo

Man, you give up easy - but that's your wish! ;)

Whilst I truly appreciate all the help that you and the other guys on here have provided, I am also concious of the comment I received from Belkin Tech Support who you would expect to know inside out, upside down and backwards their 'product'?

Their answer was: We have not designed a driver for Win7 and the adapter you have.

Having as I said been grateful for the help received there has to be a cut off point when time and effort becomes second to cost of a new albeit different USB adapter.
9 Hours so far versus £18 for a new adapter which is guaranteed to work and also cater for future requirements?
For me it's reached the point of 'no contest'.
That's life and why we have such a crappy economy.
Thanks

i am happily using a belkin G+MIMO f5d9050 uk3001 usb in win7 x64. signed drivers are derived from the ralink vista x64 drivers. it's how i am connected at the moment. copy attached.

p.s. - do NOT use the belkin/ralink software with the drivers, the inbuilt windows wireless autoconfig works fine.

Hi kronckew,
Looked up the 'chipset' for the Belkin and it turns out to be RT73.
No software is listed on ralink website for this chipset under Windows Software.

I also downloaded the link/rar file that you kindly provided which contains 4 files, but cannot get them recognised as 'driver update' after connecting the Belkin to the laptop, any chance of some install pointers please?
Thanks

Hi Martin,

Went through your 'tutorial' and have tried a number of ralink drivers including the RT73 ones which are supposed to be this Belkin chipset, but every time I try to install one I get the Win7 'Warning message' about the driver causing problems and not being compatible, so I ignore it, the laptop then crashes and I get 'Blue Screen'.
Thankfully it re-boots but no new driver and Belkin still not working.

I am beginning to think that certain 'blocks' have been installed in this laptop to stop any modifications being made!
