Belkin wireless G router crashes with Windows 7

My new Belkin Wireless G router crashes ALWAYS if I try to connect from my Windows 7 Laptop to my Windows XP (home edition) desktop.
I try to connect wireless from my Laptop (Win7) to my shared printer and shared folders on my wired Windows XP desktop.
While entering \\192.168.2.3 in my IExplorer of the Win7 Laptop:
(IP address of XP desktop) immidiately crashes the router and disconnects both computers from the internet. Only solution is to reboot the router.
Have tested this various time, but always the same result.
Both computers have the same WORKGROUP name.

Configuration:
Cable Modem:
- Surfboard SB5100E Cable modem

Router:
- Belkin Wireless G router: model F5D7234-4-UK 1.00 Firmware: V1000
WPA-PSK wireless protocol is used
Dell Laptop:
- Inspiron 1545 : Pentium Dual Core T4300(2.1GHz,800MHz,1MB)
- Dell Wireless 1397 (802.11 b/g) mini card European
- OS/Windows 7 Home Premium (NL)

Dell Desktop
- Dimension
- Standard Ethernet card
- OS/Windows XP Home edition SP3

Any hints what could cause the problem?

Update the network adapter drivers for all systems (if they aren't already) and install the latest firmware for the router.

All drivers are up to date (including the firmware of the Belkin router).
The problem continue to exist and the router still crashes after trying to connect to the shared folder at the Windows XP desktop machine.

It's been 2 years since the OP posted, I have a client with the SAME router (F5D7234-4-UK 1.00) and the only firmware version available for it is .01. It works fine with his networked XP computers but as soon as we connected his new Win7 box, the router loses connection with all the devices on the network. I've always had a fair opinion of Belkin but with a router that's "Version1" and it's only had 1 firmware revision in it's lifespan, that's just pathetic. I get that it may never be Win7 compatible but surely it needed TWO revisions...doesn't everything in our IT world?

Only reason I posted this was to sort of confirm that this particular router will NOT work with Win7 even if someone was optimistically assuming it might work 2 years later...it does NOT.

UPDATE: I thought I edited the original post, but reading it again I notice that the changes aren't there. My client doesn't have the "UK" version, as we live in the US.

Same issue with Belkin N1 + HP Win 7 laptop

It seems this is an issue with other Belkin devices.

Ever since I bought a Belkin N1 router to replace the awful bit of Thompson kit that O2 supply (Ethernet stack crashed continuously) I have not been able to connect my HP Win 7 laptop to the network without the router falling over several times a day.

Sometimes it's just the WiFi stack which crashes and turning the router WiFi function on & off via the menu system on the router (it has a display) fixes it but other times, the router needs to be completely rebooted.

It never crashes when I use my XP machine or my Toshiba Win 7 Netbook or two other netbooks I have (one with XP plus one with Ubuntu + Win 7 + Android).

I already upgraded the router firmware so my wife could use VPN to her company (VPN tunelling failed on the 1.00 version).

As a long shot, you might try to disable IPV6 on the W7 client. I had an old Netgear that wouldn't handle IPV6 traffic but worked fine if I disabled it. Open Network and Sharing Center, Select Connections, Uncheck IPV6 and try it. Not a longterm solution but will get you thru for awhile.

As a long shot, you might try to disable IPV6 on the W7 client.

That's actually a good suggestion. In fact, I'm embarrassed that I didn't think about it because I remember Vista (pre SP1) had an issue with IPv6 protocol and it needed turned off.

My client has since purchased another router and if I can get my hands on his old Belkin, I'll do some testing and hopefully remember to post back. (If you're reading this, feel free to ask if I ever did testing ... I'll get an email from sevenforums and that will remind me that I haven't posted back)
