Hi,

Alot of people will probably tell you the same as me.

Avast AV along with Microsoft Security Essentials, ESET and AntiVir are all good AV programs.

I am using Avast AV but I have used all the others as well. ESET requires you to buy it unless you only want a free 30 day trial but they are all available for you to try them as well.

I am using the free Avast AV.

I have gone through each AV programs and tried them all from Kaspersky AV, Norton, ESET, Avast, AVG, MSE, and more.

For free use either Avast, MSE, AntiVir or AVG.
If you are looking to buy then I would get Kaspersky

Test each trial version of most antivirus and see what suites you the best :)

If there were a true "Best" antivirus, it's what we would all be using and everybody would agree. We all have different needs, we all prefer different things, so you will have to play on your own and see what suites you best.

I use Trend at work, Avast on my wife's computer and MSE on my computer. As long as I have something, I'm ok.

The "best" AV is common sense. Don't go clicking on suspicious things, don't d/l questionable software (Cracks, Etc.), stay away from questionable sites. If your PC starts acting "funny", do some investigating.

Whichever AV you choose, remember that it will work best if you keep your AV defs up to date.

And keep the rest of your system programs up to date. Secunia will do a good job of telling you if there's an update available for a program, and it's free.

An Internet Security Suite would be one of your best options. Also take the advice of Borg 386!

Comodo Internet Security, the best part is its Free

Internet Security Includes:

  • Antivirus: Tracks down and destroy any existing malware hiding in a PC.
  • Anti-Spyware: Detects spyware threats and destroys each infection.
  • Anti-Rootkit: Scans, detects & removes rootkits on your computer.
  • Bot Protection: Prevents malicious software turning your PC into a zombie.
  • Defense+: Protects critical system files and blocks malware before it installs.
  • Auto Sandbox Technology™: Runs unknown files in an isolated environment where they can cause no damage.
  • Memory Firewall: Cutting-edge protection against sophisticated buffer overflow attacks.
  • Anti-Malware Kills malicious processes before they can do harm.

Click on the "Try Pro FREE for 1 year!*" text that is under the Red Free Download Button to download and you will have the pro version free for 1 year! The only difference between the free and pro versions is the free version doesn't come with, 1 year Remote Security & System Support, $500 Virus-Free Guarantee*, and $15,000 Identity Protection Coverage*

I have tested most of the top Internet security suites against many zero day viruses ect in virtual machines and none of them compare to the capabilities of Comodo Internet Security 5, except Norton Internet Security 2011, and Online Armor ++.

Comodo Internet Security was running in Proactive mode.

But in the end it is really up to the user what works for their needs, and what they feel comfortable using.

Too bad there is no download for it. ;)

Very good there is no need for a download to enjoy it ;)

Over time I reached a point where I'm fully convinced that the best antivirus is the one that's NOT installed.
