Solved Best Boot CD Antivirus?

Which of these have people used? Which would you recommend if a system were infected and unable to start Windows properly (say with the OS Security 2012 virus)?

Hi,

I've used F-Secure in the past. More recently, I've used BitDefender. But not specifically for the virus you mention.

Some of these seem a bit temperamental when it comes to updating their defintions.....Kaspersky is especially problematic. Soemtimes its a bit hit and miss.

Thanks Golden. I am currently running Kaspersky to see how the boot version does. It wouldn't let me update the definitions for the boot version, although I am not sure if that is a fault of Kaspersky or due to my wireless encryption. I will try some of the other scans later and see what I think.

This is exactly the same problem I had with Kaspersky with a permanent wired connection - so I don't think it's your wireless connection.I did make a thread about it here last year and had some input from a few people. The consensus was to try something else : in my case F-Secure ran and updated as expected.

Turns out it was the wireless connection. For some reason, Kaspersky was unable to activate the wireless connection. The boot version of BitDefender has an interface for wireless, so I was able to connect to my wireless network no problem. So far, BitDefender is the bees knees for at least updating before scanning.

The problem with CD Anti-Viruses is that once a Anti-Virus CD gets created it is hard to update it definitions.

If I get into trouble I prefer to do an on-line virus check. Most big names like Finjan, Panda, Symantec etc provide this facility.

F-Secure and BitDefender can get updated definitions. F-Secure actually has a nice feature to download updated definition to a USB and the CD runs until the utility finds the definitions and updates that way. BitDefender has a nice interface to download after the CD starts and has good networking capability.

I was looking for a CD that can be run if a computer is unable to start and is better than the current Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta | Microsoft Connect in terms of protection and what it is designed to find and fix.
