From what little research I've done on your listed programs and what graphics card is best suited for it. I found a page with the system requirements and they don't seem to require any special card for use. Here is the link I found Autodesk - Autodesk 3ds Max Products - System Requirements With that being said their are special Work Station Desktop Video cards available on Newegg most are pretty expensive Workstation VGA, Workstation Video Cards, Worstation Graphics, NVIDIA Quadro Cards, AMD / ATi FireGL Cards I know the Quadro line of cards were designed for professional use, also expensive here is a review on their latest line of cards.Nvidia Quadro 5000 Professional Graphics Card Review - X-bit labs Another problem I can for see is what would be available to you do to where you live.
You might want to visit some sites dedicated to the type of work you are involved in and see what they are using.
Don't know if any of this will help or make things more confusing for you.
Hopefully other members might be able to steer you to a much simpler answer to your question. Fabe

Hay I have a guest ion for you what is the difference in a gaming card and a card use for auto cad other then the price. I see theys cards on new egg all the time and they defiantly have a sticker shock. I mean the stream processers and ram timing seem to be the same as any gaming card I seen. Honestly I like to know the difference in the
cards and why they are so expensive

Hey. Happens to be my field:
a) Professional GPU is really a big excuse for bigger pricetag and does nothing for you(at least for now), infact may even cause instability with gaming or other aspects. Also dont be afraid to go for budget versions not the highend as once again you would most likely not notice the difference.

b) Look at the latest generation cards, prefereabliy Nvidia Fermi. While its not the most successful design in terms of power draw, bulkiness and heat, it does come with a few significant perks one of which is CUDA. There are various GPGPU solutions such as Ariron (Arion) or OctaneRender or Keylight that can take advantage of it and render up to 20x(they say 10-100x) the speed of CPU! If you are animator then rendertimes is your worst enemy. ATI card sadly wont do here.

Hope it works out for you!

For the professional level 3D creation and design programs, the Quadro cards are MUCH faster (maybe 10 x faster) than a GeForce card using the same architecture (G92, etc.). The Quadro cards are highly optimized and certified for the 3D apps. Plus, if there is a problem with one, the service from nVIDIA is great. But, you pay for it.

Now, some GeForce cards can be "soft-modded" to become imitation Quadro cards. Google it. This causes their performace to improve slightly on the 3D apps, but still way below the levels of a real Quadro. They also tend to lose a bit on the gaming side.

On the other hand, a Quadro gets it's doors blown off by a GeForce when it comes to gaming.
