Solved Best scenario to go from XP pro (32bit) to w7 (64bit)?

First; present scenario:
I have dual boot system, XP pro has always has been my default OS on a sata drive, I installed a new sata drive where I installed win 7 home premium 64bit.

What's the best way to get settings to my win7 ?

Good article & Sounds perfect except when I get to the:

""Configure XP Transfer Process Now over on the XP machine plug in the external hard drive and launch Easy Transfer.""


Both of my OS's (XP & W7) are running on different HD's But on the same machine so I loose the win7 transfer wizard when I boot over to XP !!!

Easy Transfer doesn't work too well in my experience. It might work and might not. I'd plan on reinstalling and reconfiguring all applications when moving from XP to Windows 7.

You would of course need to install it in both OS's.

However I would not use it myself either. It imports Appdata Settings which are a corruption path into a fresh new install. Better to start over fresh with a new OS.

That is a VERY Smart move. They never work as expected. I used something like that many years ago, like 12-14 years ago and ended up wiping the drive again and doing a clean install. Never even thought about it since.

That goes for upgrading over an older Win OS.

I'm amazed as to the fact that almost all my old 32bit apps are working fine inside w7 64bit.

I've yet to have to experiment using the XP mode for install....... but not thru yet :--)

It's installing them to 32 bit Program File, most likely. But that's fine. You may end up with only IE9 being 64 bit.
