Hi Guys,

I would like to upgrade my graphics card (mainly to play majority of the games(nothing specific))

This is my current configuration

Intel core2 quad Q6600 @2.40Ghz
Intel DG33FBC motherboard DDR2 RAM 8GB(2GB*4) @ 800Mhz
Seagate 400GB SATA HDD
GeForce 7300 SE/7200 GS 256mb graphics card

I guess those details are sufficient.. Please suggest me the best graphics card for this configuration along with some options would be nice and please explain to me on what basis a graphics card needs to be selected(like processor or motherboard or both)..Thanks in advance :)

karlog22, you should list your psu also. Here is a link to compare cards and review requirements for them

and another comparison link

This guide from Tom's hardware would be a good read for you too

Plan on buying a new power supply with any video card you decide on. The stock power supplies these days aren't going to cut it.

I would go with getting a better psu first, probably a seasonic or corsair 550- 650 watt. Your cpu is older but is still decent. I would go with either a 650 ti, or a 660. Not top of the line, but you should see a good boost in gaming performance. OCing that Q6600 would help too!!

karlog, what's your budget for upgrades?

I'd get a 700W 80Plus Bronze rated PSU or better (so you can likely still use on a newer build if you go that route sooner rather than later) video card wise, Nvidia 660 or Radeon 7850 is gamer starting point cards, unless really on a low budget, if that's the case, whichever best previous gen nvidia or radeon you can afford.

2nd digit in the model model # is more important than the first, higher is better, that 7300 is a bare bones card even at time of release.

Brands for PSU rec'd: Antec, SilverStone, Seasonic, Corsair, and Thermaltake. Read reviews though until satisfied.

Go with the DDR5 memory on whatever graphics card you buy. I like the NVidia GTX750Ti but it depends mostly on what games you play as to how much graphics power you need.

at the moment, your PSU is only 300w
get a bigger one, say 500w or 600w (you need POWER!)

get a bigger HD - 80G will fill up real quick
say about 500G, if you want to play a lot of games
- some of them are huge..

the higher numbers in the AMD 7000 series are pretty swift (and cheap)
600 or 700 series numbers from NVidia are also pretty smooth..

I wouldn't spend too much, else you wind up with some horribly unbalanced system..

I think that is the dirtiest case i've ever seen in my life, before you do anything, give it a good solid clean, be surprised if you can get all the dirt of it.
