Best tool for scanning PC from boot

Hello all,

For scanning machines (all Win 7 or XP) from boot I use Windows defender offline . I've burnt it on an USB flash memory. I first connect the PC to the Internet then boot from that flash memory. It updates itself by that Internet connection. Then I scan the machine.

It works fine and there isn't any main problem. But my question is that, what is best tool nowadays for scanning PC from boot please?

Don't know if it's the "best", but I find the Kasperky A/V rescue disk to be a contender.

If you ask which one is the "best", you'll get multiple responses. They all have good/bad points. I can give you a link with several choices.

Is there any one who has used the Kaspersky rescue disk successfully and removed the malicous software?

I use ESET online scanner - free from ESET. I have it in winpe. The exe is 32 bit coded, so you would need 32 bit pe, or 64 bit pe with 32 bit support.

WDO is probably fine - MS provide it free. I am surprised there aren't more people usinng it. Slight snag is WDO will only scan same bit version os.

ESET will scan anything.

Kaspersky Rescue Disk

I run it from USB on occasions and never had a problem with it. It works every time but has never found any malware. I just run it for peace of mind to to scan outside of Windows and to check that nothing is hiding.

Never ever had a problem with it. I use it for all of my PCs here.

Only once has it ever found anything malicious. But then, I keep my systems pretty clean and under tight control.

OK guys. Thank you very much. I still haven't changed my choice (WDO). It can run on boot and immediately update itself and find the malware.

Avast also has a very aggressive boot disk that works well.
