Bios hour not the same as laptop hour.

Hi there. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. A while ago i started to have problems with the clock time. So i started searching for answers on Google. Every topic referred to Cmos battery but I doubt it to be Cmos battery fault for one reason: My Laptop Emachine eMe442 is for like a month or more plugged in to the wall socket so in my (noob) opinion Cmos battery wouldn't be needed in idle mode or when pc is switched off to keep track of time. Right? Anyway, i been reading a topic on this site on same problem and there was proposed to check Bios time. I did that, and guess what, PROBLEM. Bios time seems to me is not working, or not even counting....So normally this started new question. Here they are: 1) Does Cmos battery keeps time running when in idle mode or pc is off, even if pc is plugged into the charger?
2) Whats the problem here, why my pc don't keep track of time?
3)How do i fix whatever is wrong with my Bios time?
P.s: Even when i switch on my pc, if i don't click on clock it dosn't start counting, and after i click on clock and synchronize with one of default servers after awhile it starts losing time.

Hello Florin, and welcome to Sevenforums!

If the time isn't working, then it does sound like the motherboard battery. Have you tried changing the time? You can change it usually by using tab, arrow keys, and the enter key to get to it, and change hour, minute, and second. Make sure you click "Save and Exit" to reboot the computer and keep the new motherboard time settings. After that, you might log into your admin account and change the time from there. Left-click the clock, click "Change date and time settings...", click the "Internet Time" tab, click "Change settings...", and click "Update now".

Wait a little while (however long it may take), reboot the computer, go into BIOS, and check the time again. If it isn't working, then you may nee to replace the motherboard battery.

Not until now I did changed it now. I followed the steps exactly you said. It seems like is counting minutes and seconds, but not the hours. Monday ill try to change Cmos battery... Anyway i feel like i should mention that my laptop its only 9 months old. P.s: when you say motherboard battery, you refer to Cmos battery, right?

Yes the CMOS battery is the mother board battery.
Also while I am at it I will let you know it has nothing to do with
the lap top battery. 2 different batteries.
One powers the laptop the other powers the Mother board so the time
an other stuff can work.
Just thought I would give you a lesson.

Well, if only the hour doesn't work, then it might not be the motherboard battery after all. could it be a BIOS problem? You might try updating the BIOS, which can be difficult with the archaic methods provided by most companies. This is hard for me to pinpoint the problem

Monday ill change Cmos battery and if that's the problem, ill mark this topic as solved. And i don't think i could ever update Bios by my self even if most companies provide some help regarding this. So until Monday i'm gonna sun-guide my self Joking...I do have like 3 or 4 devices which points time, just none of them can be used by the software's on my pc.
