Morning,
Not sure if this goes here.

I own an HP 15-G220CA.
The old hard drive came with pre-installed windows8.1 but the HDD got corrupted.Unusable.
So bought new HDD installed windows 7 64bit Home premium.
When I checked the bios still says OS is Windows8.1, system crashes rarely, but it does happen.
I'm not sure how to change it to Windows 7 in BIOS.

Since it came with win8 you may not be able to change it to win7. Is your disk formatted for GPT, or MBR? In bios terms, MBR refers to win7 and GPT to win8.

How to Check if a Disk Uses GPT or MBR, and Convert Between the Two

My guess is that bios setting is not causing your crashes though. Since the machine does not officially support win7, you may currently have a few driver conflicts. To check, do start > run > msinfo32 > components > problem devices and see if the right hand pane is blank. If its blank then your drivers are fine. But if it lists any problem devices, you need to find and install the win7 drivers online. SDI Lite will do so automatically, fyi

One more note - if the former HDD got corrupted, its possible that the cause was the hard drive itself, or its possible you have some other hardware issue such as the motherboard, and the data that got written to the hard drive was corrupted. This would explain your current crashes, is why I bring it up.

I'd try to resurrect that Windows 8.1 and go with dual boot as added insurance. I'm running 8.1 on MBR without any problems on a logical volume. If your hard drive is less than 1TB this should not be an issue but if it is more than 1TB you need to partition the hard drive after converting it to GPT.

    Other Info
NOT ENOUGH ROOM TO LIST ALL HARD DRIVES HERE. Cuts me off at 5. Did you know that if you run a network you can scan your PC for viruses via other PCs using several different virus scanners? No virus scanner gets it all. This is narrows down the window for contracting a virus. By using multiple operating systems you can use different virus scanners with no risk of conflict.
