Bitlocker - what desktop mobo has TPM?

Hi,

I'm trying to lock down a desktop system's drives using bitlocker, and want to build a system with an onboard TPM chip.

I can't find a currently produced X58 based mobo with TPM onboard, or the TPM headers for the ones that have that capability.

eg Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P not available in australia any more and no more stock coming.
eg2 Many Asus and an Asrock board have TPM headers but you can't buy the TPM module to plug into them (appears to be made by infineon).

I don't want to use bitlocker with a USB stick.

It sounds so silly, but I don't know how to make bitlocker work with onboard TPM on a highend desktop machine - when it is advertised as a big feature for getting the ultimate version.

Is anyone else having this problem?

If you know the brand that you want, go to their site and see if there is a TPM driver for the model. This most likely will tell you if that model/mobo is TPM compat.

Thanks, but I've spent about a day already trawling mobo websites looking through the boards specifications lists.

I'm hoping someone has a magic answer cause unless I've missed something with the research I've already done, you can't have bitlocker on a decent desktop pc - without a usb stick.. I just find it hard to believe.

Has anyone got bitlocker running on an x58 mobo? or
Has anyone actually bought a TPM header module?

So is TPM only aimed at the laptops that have it built in? It sounded like it was something that should be common in many pc's but it's not (unless you want to use a USB stick for your keys..) ?

Go to gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > BitLocker Drive Encryption > Operating System Drives > Require Additional Authentication at Startup > Enable

GA-EP45T-UD3P (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview tpm is mostly for laptops. you won't find a wide selection for desktops yet. HP/Compaq are working on standardizing.

I found one that appears to support TPM

The Foxconn A74ML 3.0 series BIOS (American Megatrends) appears to support it. The manual for that mobo shows an option of enabling/disabling TCG/TPM support.
