According to the logs, Windows managed to install a number of updates during that 'rest' period!
Please boot back to normal mode again, and leave the system for 30 minutes - see what happens.
If there's no change after 30 minutes, reboot it again back to Safe Mode.

I knoiw this is a bit leftfield, but do you have an external USB hard drive plugged in when you boot up?

Try unplugging it if yes.

UPDATE:

The Black screen is now gone. Because I uninstalled the Service Pack 1. Maybe that will give you guys a clue to what happened. I know it will ask me to install it again in the future.

I dunno if this falls under resolved.

Check that your drivers are up ro date at the manufacturer's site, and then decide whether to attempt reinstalling SP1
