hello, i recently installled windows 7 64bit pro,it has been working fine till today when i unistalled some sound codecs ,so i restarted the pc but when it gets past the windows symbol it just goes black with the mouse pointer?,i cant get into task manager either,so no mater what i press on the keyboard nothing happens(the keyboard is working thou ie press the cap locks on or of and the light goes on or off,so i turned the pc off and restarted pressing f8 ,went to safe mode but it does the same thing loads the drivers then just goes to a black screen with the mouse pointer?,so then tried the repair but it came back with nothing wrong?,then tried system restore but when it is just starting to do it it comes up with rstrui.exe application failed the instruction at 0xfbb0584d reference memory at 0x00000008 the memory could not be read? is there anything i can do or is it a clean install
thanks in advance mark.

I have the exact same thing going on right now. Did you ever find a resolution, short of a complete rebuild, to your BSOD.

Hi, thanks for the link but I've been down all those roads. The not being able to run SR is a real pain. Just tried running a permissions sweep suggested from this link:

VISTA - Black Screen white mouse pointer

With no better results. That's why I was curious about markeagles experience, it's the exact situation I have with this Toshiba laptop, my mother's of course, and I do this for a living. I'd probably back it up and do the Toshiba out of the box restore but I just spent an incomprehensible amount of time gathering up all her data from 2 old (I mean old previous old computer backups included) and getting her all up and running on this new LT.

Any other client I would have told them hope you have a backup it's reinstall time. Mom has had this LT 2 weeks and it did this after a WU overnight. No backup done yet. Grrr.
