I hope someone here can help me. I have been running Windows 7 w/o any issues since it was first released. I had it installed on an 80GB ssd which it outgrew. I purchased a new 128GB SSD to replace it. Did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Initial boot up was normal. Activated my Windows then proceeded to do the first round of updates. after they were installed and system reboots I get a black screen. I can see HD activity but no image. I run a dual monitor setup. I unplugged the 2nd monitor and rebooted. No change. I unplugged all other hard drives and adapters. Only things plugged into the MB are the 4 sticks of RAM, my video card (MB does not have built in video), and my SSD drive. Any clue as to how to fix this? Windows was running fine. I can plug the old drive back into my system and Windows works fine.

EDIT: I forgot to add that I can boot into Safe mode with no issue. I get image like normal.

Hi Norman,

It might be possible that one of the updates installed have caused conflict with your GPU drivers. If you can boot into safe mode then you could just try to uninstall the GPU drivers you have and reboot. If your PC boots normally after reboot then try to install the updated drivers of your GPU in normal Windows mode.

It is definately the nVidia drivers. I have tried downloading them directly from nVidia with a slightly different result. Instead of a black screen I get a screen with the default Windows background and nothing else. No icons, menus, or mouse pointer. this is ridiculous. All I did was upgrade my SSD. None of my hardware has changed otherwise. Even using the same damned drivers.
