50% of the time one gets the BlackSOD it's because of faulty display adapter drivers
49% of the time it is because of file permissions being changed
1% of the time it is a bad hard drive.
Check the build date of your drive by going to the manufacturers website and check it's date. Hard drives have a finite life span and can die.
Run a SMART drive test on the drive and see if you receive any errors soo as to eliminate that possibility.
Then use CloneHD (or the cloning program of your choice) to create a clone and preserve your data . You should always do that if you find yourself having to pull out your hard drive.
If it passes the test you might be OK. Although nothing is bulletproof.
My advice would be to clone the drive, and in a new drive and transfer the data from
Be sure to login and create your account first, then copy that data.
If you use Firefox, back up your data folder which is:
Code:
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
Reinstall Firefox and drop that profile folder into the same place.
But before you do any of that stuff...pull the drive and put it an external drive bay and run
this.
