Hi when checking out my parents laptop, a blue screen appears after i press restart. The laptop appears fine, and restarts normally. No errors occur beyond that point. Just on restart a blue screen flashes, with error codes. I am currently not able to upload the dump file or get the bug check code, but i was wondering if anyone has an idea with why it would be doing that?

yes restart completed in that exact manner. Also understood, tomorrow i shall have a full .rar file using seven forums program, nirsoft blue screen dump file, and the health report. I was also researching it before this with the bug check code, and found that others achieved the same code from Norton programs. Not in the same manner as i did, but same code. I used the Norton removal tool, but the problem still existed. Unfortunately i wont have access to that laptop until tomorrow. Not sure, this is based on memory but i think it said something about hdaudbus, or something along the sorts. Thanx for the support, i shall have the rar file up sometime tomorrow, possibly within the next few hours:) love this site.

Sounds good. I should be around tomorrow to check them out sometime during the day. Look forward to seeing the reports. It may be a driver issue related to the HD Audio driver based on the info given if it is accurate. We'll have to see what the reports say, though.

Device Concerns:
Code:
Sftfs	ROOT\LEGACY_SFTFS\0000	This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.
Device is not present, not working properly, or does not have all of - Microsoft Answers may help.

Software Concerns:
Code:
Start Menu\Programs\Advanced SystemCare 5
Start Menu\Programs\Optimizer Pro
Start Menu\Programs\Smart Defrag 2
Before I give my usual warnings about the above software, I have seen Advanced System Care damage so many systems beyond repair that I would advise you clean re-install Windows to remove it: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164. The damage it does is that serious.
  • Many of us on the forums actually do not recommend automated optimization tools for Windows 7. Windows 7 does a much better job of handling its own optimization than its predecessors did. We especially do not recommend registry cleaning as an "optimization" step because automated registry cleaning causes more harm to the registry than it actually repairs.

In the future, if you need help optimizing Windows 7, please post a thread in Performance & Maintenance - Windows 7 Forums or follow the tutorial enclosed in that forum to http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ws-7-a.html?filter[2]=Performance Maintenance.

  • I personally do not recommend 3rd party defrag tools. I have seen them damage restore points and even cause blue screen crashes. Windows has some nice command line flags for the defrag command that will accomplish the same tasks as 3rd party programs. The -b and -w flags will defrag boot files and the boot registry items as well as compact the data to the center of the disk for faster access.
    defrag c: -b
    defrag -c -v -w
The first command optimizes boot performance for the Windows drive by defragmenting boot files and boot registry items.

The second command includes all drives on the system through the -c command and optimizes the drives by compacting the data to the center of the disk. Verbose output through the -v option is optional to provide the user with more information about the defrag tasks. The commands have to be run in an http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/783-elevated-command-prompt.html.

    For more flags, see http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11733-disk-defragmenter-open-use.html.

Analysis:
Your first crash was rather inconclusive. The most recent crash blames avast!. I still suspect both may have been caused by damage due to optimization tools... If you would like to proceed anyway:
  1. Remove avast! with the avast! Uninstall Utility | Download aswClear for avast! Removal.
  2. Replace with either of these:

all right thanx for the info, advanced system care has been on the computer for a while, same goes for smart defrag 2. Now optimizer pro on the other hand was accidentally put on their recently by my dad, so i uninstalled it. I think if it were one of the 2 it could be that one causing problems. I will go check the device under device manager. I will remove avast and replace with mse and malware bytes which is actually what i have on the current computer. Clean install i will lead to if all else fails. Actually i think i will try to find a system restore before the problem occured. thanx for the support.

Actually change in plan, i am going to factory restore it out of box style using the toshiba recovery wizard. I think my parents will be pleased it runs almost as if they 1st bought it, i will remove some bloatware and then will install MSE with malware bytes. Wont use auto tune up programs and just stick with ur commands in the post as well as windows disk cleaner and defragmenter. Here comes a hell-pit of windows updates -_- Thanx:).

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219576-clean-up-factory-bloatware.html may come in handy in your process. Our expert in Windows installations put it together, and it helps systems run very cleanly. :)

Glad to see you are moving away from 3rd party tools for optimizing Windows. I have found that the tutorials on these forums are really all we need. There are a couple 3rd party tools we use. If you do want a free 3rd party defrag tool that is trusted: Puran Defrag Free Edition - CNET Download.com is the way many of us go.

Some of the gurus also use CCleaner for cleaning the registry. I personally avoid it because I still think registry cleaning is bad news regardless of what software does it. It is better to learn about the registry and manually delete entries instead of relying on an automated tool that may delete something vital. Even manually making registry changes, I always make a system image first so I have a good baseline to return to. If you are interested in system imaging:
