Hello all, just wanted to get the opinions of others in the Windows 7 community and see if anyone else has had this problem. I recently attempted to purchase and play Borderlands 2 on my custom built PC. If you need specs, just use the link provided by these forums at the bottom of every post. I installed the game and steam without problem but when I launched the game it immediately caused my computer to blue screen. I tried to look the error code up but there was LITERALLY nothing on it. I was shocked to say the least, especially considering I have the RECOMMENDED video card model (nVidia GTX 560). The only thing I can think of is that I am using an AMD chipset with an nVidia video card or my BIOS needs to be updated. If anyone else has noticed this problem with the new FX series processors, let me know. I sure could use some kind of explanation for this issue. Thanks to all who reply in advance...

if you had a blue screen do you have anything in the folder c:\windows\minidump ?
I would debug it for you if you zip and attach the contents of that folder.
It will be much more helpful than any random guessing.

I did not save the dump file. I should have but I was so frustrated at the time that I just went down and traded the PC version for an XBox version. I was just wondering if anyone who has a similar set up as me has encountered this issue. Games are usually pretty good about compatibility issues. This is the first time this has happened to me and I have played A LOT of games on a lot of different platforms. I've built more than one custom computer before and have never seen this issue. I just wanted to know if others in the community have heard of or experienced a similar issue.

Thanks for the offer to debug but since I traded for the XBox version it won't be necessary. If a game blue screens my computer I don't even want to try to figure out why. Just having this happen to me gives me a headache, let alone trying to figure out how and why. Thanks again though for the offer.

well if you get a dump file send it my way and I'll tell you the exact faulting driver/system component.

Usually people tend to blame the amd/nvidia coincidence for what is really just a driver or possibly even a antivirus or firewall app gone overboard.
Also as always with new games you want your latest vcredist and graphics/audio drivers.

The only way I could be sure would be by looking over a crash dump though.

ok cool. I'm actually going to try to get a version that doesn't use Steam if you know what I mean. That way if it doesn't crash, then it was Steam. If it still crashes I will send over the dump file for you to take a look at and see what caused it. Thanks again...

The game, the achievement system, the matchmaking, the updates and patches, community support, and new content, are all delivered via steam.

This isn't ubisoft, the drm isn't the problem.

Blue screen crash on bl2 pc version

Hey i'm having the same problem i know its my CPU tho and i got sent to the MSI website (brand of my mother board) to get bios since that's what 2K games told me to do and it says
(this version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you'r running. Check you system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or a x64 (64-bit) of the program, and then contact the software publisher)

This is very annoying.

If you (maguscreed) or anyone else with any help could help me please reply so i will be able to attach the dump file and my system spec if needed so you could have a look, Thank you.

To answer your question I run Borderlands 2 fine on my set up and i am running a 8120 fx and crossfire 7970 if you are getting blue screens check and update your visual c+++ redistribute and direct x drivers

It has nothing to do with the chip set and also disable your anti virus /firewall it might just be blocking the game from starting wich will cause it to crash it's defently not the chipset

@Darkness we need some system specs I wouldn't know how to solve your issue
I atleast have an idea of what the Op that started this thread is using but you need to give us specs your problem might not be his problem
