BlueRay drive problems

After regular installation of LG SATA BlueRay on a Dell Optiplex, running Windows 7 64B, I experience after every computer new startup the error "please insert a disc" error, if I try to read a cd or a dvd or a BD.
I have to uninstall the drive and cicle the windows startup. After the new POST, windows finds the drive, reload the driver and I can use the CD/DVD/BD reader.This until the next startup, where the failure happens again.
Any idea ? Thanks

I would check the maker of the blue ray drive's support site to see if there are any updated drivers for the player. Thats the first and probably easiest thing to start with. If that does not do anything for ya post back and we can take it from there.

Let me add an additional important point. As result of last actions, I found out that the disc is recognized if the startup is done in safe mode.
Then I presume it's some driver interference that creates the problem.
Any idea could help in finding it ? Thanks

Of course you probably all ready tried running Windows Updates and see if a driver is offered.

Are you able to plug it into a different SATA port on the MB maybe even replace the cable and see how that goes. Do you have any virtual CD/DVD installed, are you using Daemon tools and if so try to uninstall it and just in case go to My Computer, then click on Tool, Folder Options and click on the View tab then scroll down and uncheck the Restore previous folder windows at logon option and restart the computer

Hi Shimshom, I will do the attempt to change SATA port, beside I doubt to solve as generally DVD drive ask for the second channel. Anyhow I will give it a try.
After discovering that with safe mode it works I have an hard work to do as some other installation mat interfere and will not be an easy job to find out which one. Thanks

When you boot into normal 7 and go into device manager and check the drive there, does the model listed MATCH the actual model?

Safe mode uses very generic drivers, and it may look fine in that mode, but lack in features (aka the need for the actual driver) and if the wrong one is in use in regular 7....

Just a thought.... 8)

With SATA drives I've found it generally doesn't matter which SATA port the Optical drive uses as long as the BIOS sees it, also have seen it work best to keep SATA 0 for the first/bootable/OS drive [C:], again if the BIOS sees it as an HDD or SSD.

I agree with the above but worth trying just to eliminate the possibility that somehow that SATA port is physically damaged

Just to close the thread: Despite many attempts to solve done, no final solving solution has been found. The best I can do is to go to drive proprieties and deactivate/activate the device. At that point I give up. Thanks to all of you for helping.
