Bluray drive question

I have no experience with Bluray, but I thought I might buy one to replace my second dvd drive that just died.

The reviews are good, but they say it doesn't come with software.

What software do I have to buy to use this drive?

Also, if I connect it to the 6g port, would the performance be better?

I've purchased two blue-ray burners (each for a different PC) and in BOTH cases, they came with burning software.

Unless you specifically want that product, I would look around for one that comes with software.

According to the Blu-ray Disc specification, 1x speed is defined as 36Mbps, if we assume a maximum disc rotation speed of 10,000 RPM, then 12x at the outer diameter should be possible (about 400Mbps). SATA3 should be more than enough. Movies run at about 54mbs. I can recommend the internal ASUS blu-ray 12X, can be found for under $50.

Take your pick, yea, I didn't add the Gb/s. Some of the forums I participate in use sata6 and sata3 as a short cut, not everyone is familiar with the transfer speeds of each version number.

SATA 1.0-1.5Gbs
SATA 2.0-3 Gbs
SATA 3.0-6Gbs
SATA 3.1-6Gbs
SATA 3.2-16Gbs
