Every time I bring up either Outlook or IE8 I get thes loud "BOING" like sounds. I find it very annoying! I have tried no sounds in control panel/sounds, shut of sound reminders in Outlook, and no sounds in IE8/options/advanced and shut off sounds there. I still get it in both programs, and have also moved the slider to off in system sounds. There certainly must be some way of shutting this annoying sound off. I am a Amatuer Radio operator and use voice control and it is load enough to trigger the vox and send it out over the airways. I have tried FireFox and the sound does not exist in it , but would prefer IE 8 if I could just kill that blasted sound.

Thanks Marv

I've never heard launching Outlook or IE8 make any kind of sound at all. I believe you're experiencing some sort of error condition. I would suggest checking your event viewer to see what is happening when you launch those programs, or, if this is something that has just recently started, use System Restore to roll back to before it happened.

Have you checked all of the settings below, to see if any of them control the IE and Outlook 'boing' sounds?

TO CHANGE ANY SOUND THAT YOU DON'T LIKE, go to Control Panel, Sound, and select Sounds. Open the "Program Event" drop down menu, choose whichever sounds you want to change (e.g. System Notifications or Menu Popups), and open the “Sounds” drop-down menu at the bottom of the screen. Select any of the many provided sounds in the Sounds list (or select "None" at the very top of the list if you don’t want that particular function to have any sound at all). If you would like to listen to a sample of each one, while a sound is highlighted, click the “Test” icon to the right of the Sounds drop down menu, to listen to the sound.

Yeah, that doesn't work. The "boing" sound is not anywhere in those folders
