Boot File for Windows 7 Corrupt, please help

I'm really sorry we couldn't help you out there F. I'm glad you are able to back up the data that was on the drive though. It's a pain in the you know what to get everything back the way you had it, but it certainly beats loosing all your data.

Let us know when it all get's settled down and fixed.

HI Perrybucsdad its getting there thanks for the help :D. You have to love the forums :D

Booting in to OS is fine its creating a system image thats now a problem. I tried to create a system image of Vista and it now selects Windows 7 as well. No point making an image of Windows 7 as am sure that will not be usable with the retail version, or will it?

All my data is separate from the OS(s) then backed up using Karen's replicator on an external drive. Learnt from the past

Will keep you posted, cannot wait to get the retail version :D

will formating the j: drive get rid of the boot manager on there?

yes it will. however Windows will only allow you to format that disk if it does not boot from it.

Surely if I transfer media off the drive, format it, the boot mngr will go as well leaving me with boot mngr on c:? Can I do that now rather than waiting for retail OS to turn up?

yes that is correct. So long as the system is capable of fully booting from the C: drive (for example when all other drives are disconnected), it will not hurt to format the J: drive because the system is not depending on the boot files being there anymore.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
just to let you guys know, boot mngr has now been deleted from j: after removing everything and formatting :D

Now to create a system image of vista
