I am looking for a opinion on a problem I currently have.
I'll start from the beginning,
Last year the computer was left on, there was a sudden power flash off and back on, the computer started turning back on automatically, then another power surge. I wasnt around it during this tine but came in to turn it off after the second power cut, by the time I came in it was in the " fixing computer" screen with a loading line and a cancel button. I pushed cancel, but nothing really happened, it seemed like it was semi frozen up, then the power went out for two hours. Once back on, the computer turns on, does the single beep bios check then loads to a message, saying something like, no loadable drive detected, press any key to restart. I checked the connections etc, theyre all tight. I have inserted the repair disc, it loads the colourful windows square, (takes about 5 minutes to leave that) then loads a black screen (maybe with the cursor, I don't remember? ), unchanging for upto half an hour atleast. I have tried the HDD in a friends computer with the same results (even with it set as a slave). I ended up trying something that was maybe not the best but, I loaded my friends computer with the HDD power plugged in but not the SATA until the computer was loaded (I think thats the order, I might have done it vise versa, can't remember) I then plugged the other cable in and did a search for hardware changes. After the hdd's driver was installed, the computer became horribly slow, it takes about 10 minutes for any action to occur, opening a page etc. Long story short I was able to start a integrity scan ( the one where it has about 5 stages to scanning), in about 3 hours it got 3- 5% on the first stage. Since it was a friends computer, I couldn't leave it going, so cancelled and put it in storage, where its been ever since.
I only have access to a laptop right now so I cant hook it up like on my friends and leave a error scan going.
From researching the black screen problem, I only find " take it to a pro". I would normally do so but the local shop closed down, the next nearest is 2 hours away, there is a new one opening " sometime". But in the mean time I wanted to ask, is there a "quicker" fix?
I wanted to do sfc (I think thats the name, its been a while since ive messed with it), but cant seem to figure out how to run it on a slave/secondary drive? As I believe it would be the windows files that are corrupt,possibly specifically the boot files?
I can still use a friends computer, but not for the days or anything like what the first scan was going to take.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or am I stuck waiting for the local shop to open back up?
There's nothing important on the drive, but wouldn't mind having it fixed by now.
It is a Windows 7 64 bit. Not sure if you need anything else. My friends is the same as well.
