boot from drives and format

i think i couldn' t explain well.

i am currently using windows7 which is installed in C drive.

now i want to uninstall windows7 from C drive and then again install a fresh new copy of windows7 in same C drive.

i dont have Usb, External Hard Drive and DVD Rom so how can i do this?

kindly tell me , you are getting my point now or not?

My DVD ROm doesnt give respond so.........

i know, thanks i thought that perhaps there is something invented now through win7.
now i made a usb bootable of win7.
but i am facing a problem right now.
i have made this one from the web: www.maketecheasier.com
but when i restarted my system go into the bios.
and from bios, go into Advanced CMOS Setup.
and then select First boot device as USB.

now here are some more similar things to USB.
for example:
IDE-0,CD/DVD-0,Intel UNDI,
USB FDD,
USB CDROM,
USB HDD,
USB RMD-FDD,
USB RMD-HDD.

which one should i have to choose.?
i selected USB-FDD but there is an error when i am trying to restart : "a Disk Read-Error Occured, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del"

kindly tell me how to ?
and what sequence of boot devices should be?

maifs

In the first quote you say you dont have a dvd, in the second you do but its not doing something.

Can we get t his straight?

You can install win 7 if you have the files on HD D, then just double click setuo.

What kind of problem are you now having?

ohh sir my mind is spinning now. situation is going more complex.
At first , i tried to install win7 without DVD,USB and External Hard disk.SO thats why i asked this.
After than i said. i dont have . But i meant to say that DVD/Rom is not giving any respond , mean not working.
2ndly i borrowed USB drive from some one for solving my problem.
i made it bootable but when i tried it to start booting process.

FOr starting booting process,i i had to go inside the system bios and had to set the first boot device as USB but here is no option like a single USB.

these options are avaiable at there:
IDE-0,
CD/DVD-0,
Intel UNDI,
USB FDD,
USB CDROM,
USB HDD,
USB RMD-FDD,
USB RMD-HDD.

Now i dont know which one is for this USB drive? i tried 2 in above of them
USB FDD and USB RMD-HDD as First boot device. but this error occured when it try to boot.
" Disk Read-Error Occured, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del".

if you still confused then please read my all threads, you ll be understand.

Copy Windows 7 setup files to the external disk drive.

Run Windows 7 setup from the external drive.
Navigate to your install files on D.

Run Setup.exe
..., first double click the "SETUP" icon in installation folder. The Windows 7 installation application opens. Click "INSTALL NOW" and follow the instructions Windows Installation gives to you.
You can install win 7 if you have the files on HD D, then just double click setup.

dear why are you not getting my point? i tried my best as long as i can explain.
dear kari,
i know all this. but my problem is not relating to this.
i have to first uninstall the win7 from my C drive then have to install a fresh copy of win7 into the C drive.
i haven't an external hard drive or DVDRom (mean not working).
i just have an usb at this time which create this problem which i discussed at above.

No, Maifs, you don't have to. Just start installation from drive D:, and when it comes so far choose "Custom" and later choose drive C: .

It makes a clean install to your C: drive. Maybe I really am stupid, but I can simply not understand why it is so important to you NOT to install it from your D: drive? I'd rather install anyway I can, than desperately accept only one installation method.

Once again I quote a great guru from this forum: 10-7.

Yours,

Kari

i want to boot from my internal drive ( windows7 backup is resided in my internal drive).
mean to say drive is same....
path is this :

D:\windows7\7100.0.090421-1700_x86fre_client_en-us_retail_ultimate-grc1culfrer_en_dvd
i want to boot from this
YOUR D DRIVE IS AN INTERNAL DRIVE.

If you must ignore everything we say, please ignore the following as well..

Navigate to your install files on D. Run Setup.exe

When the install process asks you UPGRADE or CUSTOM Intsall. choose CUSTOM.

When the install process asks you to decide which drive you wish to install Windows 7 on, choose your C drive.

You DO NOT need to uninstall first.

hi again ,
i run Setup.exe and after than select custom Install.
when i tried to install in c drive, it displays this in bottom of that window:
"windows cannot start in that disk and in that partition" and next button is going to be disabled, so i can't click on it.
actually , i dont have any space in my any drive and other drives(other than C drive) contain important data, so that 's why i dont want to install in any other drive.
is there not any way that i can fromat my c drive first and then install new win7 ?
now please dont say that use external drive or DVD Rom.
is there not a single way to solve it?

You can format the C drive at that time.

Am I missing something?

Maybe, I'm not sure, but I think he cannot format the C: drive because that is the drive his current version of Windows is running from. You know, you cannot format the C: drive while you're booted into Windows and you cannot install to a partition that doesn't have enough free space.

What he can do is follow a procedure similar to the following, but instead of using a USB flash drive, just use your D: partition and make it active using disk management or diskpart.

Install Windows Vista (or 7) from Bootable USB Flash Memory Drive

EDIT: It does work nicely, even when using internal hard disks as the install media. I just tried it, and it's fast. Like I say, I only had to adopt the method above to use my internal hard disk rather than a USB one. (Be careful or you could end up doing bad things to your current partition structure...ultimately creating a big headache for yourself, especially if it causes you to lose important data!)

To recap: Basically all you really need to do is set your D: partition as active and then go into your BIOS and make the hard disk including the D: partition as the first boot device (it probably already is). If you need any more help, just let me know.

WARNING: Techie Explanation:
The reason this works is because copying the installation files from the Win7 DVD to hard disk also copies the boot manager and boot code that was included on the install media. However it will NOT do anything to the hard disk's Master Boot Record, so the boot code in the MBR must already be in place [as it should be so long as the disk was already partitioned with Windows Vista or higher]). This is a nice feature and it didn't used to work pre-Vista days. I hope this was not too much information :geek:

If the D: partition is on the same hard drive as C: then you don't need to change the boot order. You only need to make the D: partition active using disk management or diskpart

Once you get Windows installed you might need to set C: drive as active again. You can do that using the diskpart tool on the install media.

You cannot make a logical drive or an extended partition active. Only a primary partition can be made active.
Mark a partition as active - Windows Vista Help

I think it's time for a new DVD drive. :P

Either that or find some utility that lets you convert an extended/logical partition into a primary partition. I use Acronis Disk Director. Maybe you can find a free one that works with Windows.

Caution here !!

Marking a partition as active is an advanced task that should only be performed by advanced users.

Do not mark a partition as active if it does not contain the loader for an operating system. Doing so will cause your computer to stop working.

right after you turn the PC on, press the key that the screen says to press in order to change the boot option. Then select the DVD drive and press Enter.

Or go into the BIOS and select the DVD drive as the first boot device.
