I have a machine with Intel 945GNT board, Transcend 2 GB RAM with 667 MHZ, Seagate 500 GB SATA HDD, Samsung 80 GB IDE HDD. Everything was going good with my XP, but when I installed Windows 7 Enterprise, it takes more than 5 minutes to come up to OS selection screen. Before coming to OS selection it has black screen with blinking cursor on left. I removed all partitions and tried installing Windows 7 on Seagate HDD with with other one removed at that time. Also did same with Samsung IDE but problem persists. Can anybody please help me? Thanks in advance!

Are you running a 64bit or 32bit machine.. You should have a look at your BIOS settings to see if the bootup time is not being delayed by the BIOS.:D

Thanks for quick reply. I am running a 32 bit machine. I put my Win 7 installed HDD as first to boot. Also system becomes extremely slow within period of black screen. Even if i press numlock within that period, it takes 5 seconds to glow the led on key board. Please help!

Does it boot up in safe mode fine? Have you checked out your boot settings for the delay option.

Have you tried resetting the CMOS via the battery.?
You must also configure your startup applications,
-Run
-msconfig.exe
-startup

It boots fine in safe mode, but menu for booting in safe mode comes after black screen which stays there for 5 minutes. I haven't tried resetting CMOS. Please tell me if will it be resolved by updating BIOS. I am having bios version from year 2006. Latest is released in 2009.

Its no easy task updating your BIOS!! I'd advise you to stay away from there... Lets rather work on this.Try .. Run >cmd >sfc /scannow after that chkdsk /r then reboot and wait for the chkdsk to complete all 5 stages.. Then report back,,

Do you have both OS's on one drive? Why does it give you the BOOT SELECTION?

A black screen with a blinking cursor is probably the result of not having the hard drive set as the first boot device in the BIOS Boot Priority. I get that when a CD/DVD drive is set first. It shouldn't delay the boot as much as it has in your case, but it is still work checking into.

I have installed Windows 7 on Seagate HHD (500 GB). When I start machine there is only HDD connected to PC. It is Seagate. My friend who is a computer expert is going to update the BIOS. Before that I am going to try yours method. Thank for quick reply. I will report you.

Why I said that its not a good idea is for the reason if something went wrong like a power outage or an interruption you would be buying a new motherboard.. But glad this issue has been solved.

I have windows 7 x64 laptop. Few months ago, I have installed windows 8 in a partition with primary boot as windows 8 and thus I had dual boot drive (windows 7 and windows8). As I didn't like windows 8 last week I have deleted the partition. Now the system is searching for windows 8 during the boot and not booting windows 7. Can you please help
