Thank you for taking some time to read this post.

I built my PC around 2 years ago (3 maybe) and have had little to no issues, before I went off to college a few months back, I nuked my Hard drive and reinstalled windows 7 for a fresh experience. Everything has been going smoothly until this last week or so where my computer has been having issues booting up

After turning on the computer the fans will run and the lights turn on, but right about the time that it would normally display the bios option it will shut off and after a second or two turn back on. This will repeat for an indefinite amount of time until one of the boot ups are successful and the computer boots as normal, no error messages.

I read online it might be a hardware issue but it could also be something to do with BIOS so I wanted to make a post to see others opinions.

Thank you for your time, if I should delete this post and move it to another category please let me know.

Nathaniel

A couple of questions:

1. How old is your power supply?
2. What kind of supply is it? Make and wattage?
3. Have you checked your temperatures lately?
4. Is your CPU fan header securely plugged in?
5. Are there any multiple beeping noises on boot up?

Please answer the above so we can help you better.

After taking care of Mellon Head request I have a idea.
Because your computer was just sitting while you were off to college you could of got a poor motherboard battery.

They are cheap. Just replace it and reset the time in bios and see what happens.
Your motherboard manual will have instructions.

It may not solve your problem but it's easy and cheap.

1. My power supply is the same one I put in when I built my Pc (2-3 years ago).
2. Thermaltake TR2-600W Model: TR2-600NL2NH
3. I dont have a CPU temp checker.
4. Just rechecked the fan and it is secure, (on a sidenote my CPU does need new paste, but it has been like that for more than a year
5. No noises other than normal whirring fans

When I was in the computer i did notice a power cable not plugged in that I believe I remember used to be that might have been pulled out when I was cleaning a few months back, I re-plugged it in, but I don't know why the boot up issue would have been so delayed if that was the cause though.

For Layback bear,

My computer hasn't been sitting at all though, its been used everyday for the last 3 years and the issue has just come up.

Additional information on the issue as a whole is that it does not happen on every boot up.

Sorry for the misleading text, I was trying to have it show that I nuked the computer a few months back and have been using it since but the problem had just recently arose(just in case the problem could have come from the nuke). Thank you for responding to the post none the less.
