Bootmgr corrupt system cannot boot after fresh install

Startup Repair will not work unless you first confirm the WIn7 partition or the 100mb System REserved partition (preferred if you have it) is marked Active: Mark Partition Active.

If this is not done Startup Repair does not know where you want the boot files so will not either repair or rewrite them no matter how many times it's run.

If this fails work through the other steps here which try everything possible for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

In post #8 he told us he only has 1 partition. After renaming bootmgr and doing a startup repair... bootmgr is there again. That partition is active otherwise it doesn't boot into recovery environment from physical harddisk
