Bought 64bit - anyway to get 32bit?

Howdy,

I bought win 7 64 through my student account and installed it; it's running fine except the inital bluescreens(they stopped, mysteriously) but the performance is usually crap in games, specifically Valve games (L4D, TF2) I really don't know why, but it never did this in Xp and I'm sure it isn't the OS taking the extra memory(8 gigs)

So someone suggested going to 32 bit, but does that mean I need to buy win 7 again? Or is there a way to install/get 32 bit if i bought the 64 bit version?

I believe that your key can be used to activate either 64 or 32 bit versions.

(You've already used it, so you may need to activate a new installation by phone.)

If you have ready access to the 32 bit installation media, you should be OK.

The 32 bit versions doesn't support above 4GB of RAM, though. (I'm not sure it will run properly, beyond the fact that you won't be able to access it.)

Check the CPU Usage and Used Physical Memory in Resource Monitor before you start gaming. If either one is excessive, then shut down unnecessary stuff that's running in the background. Also, make sure the vid card/adapter is configured for max acceleration.

I think that you may have misunderstood the above poster. You can use your DVD and the 32 bit key. Worse case scenario, you have to activate by a touch tone phone and maybe talk to someone, but you will get it. You are entitled to it.

A little hint. Do not give your key number, until fully installed. Dont check the box asking to activate automatically. Use the system for up to 30 days, install your programs etc. When happy call the number. You paid for this, use it if you want.

Thanks for the tip Rich; I did understand that I can used, it's just if its only going to recognize 4 gigs I might as well just use my copy of xp. I'm more comfortable with it anyway and I know it works on my comp.

There are no right and wrong answers. Do what makes you comfortable.

What are your system specs? 7 is vastly different to XP. This isn't 7's fault - its your hardware and drivers.

There is not an "XP RAM Limit". That limit is caused by the limitations of the x32 architecture. It is "removed" in x64 systems.
