Hey all can someone tell me this please. I want to connect my computer through pppoe to the isp all that through my other computer which is connected to the isp modem via lan. and the first computer is connected to the second via wireless. I have bridged wireless and lan connections on the second computer but i cant seem to connect the first computer to my isp (via pppoe). What i came to find via wireshark is that im not receiving or not being able to send pppoe network discovery packets which are used to initiate the pppoe connection (my isp cant see them and i cant see other either , but i can when i connect the computer directly to the modem , just not through the bridged connection)
anyone can help on this?

im not using internet connection sharing, i just want to bridge (right click and bridge) the two connections, that should be like physically connecting the first computer to the modem (not routing) but it seems like pppoe traffic is being filtered somewhere in between (second pc)
this is what i want to do
PC1 ->(wifi)-> [PC2 (wifi bridged with lan)]->(lan)-> ISP modem -> isp

no my modem isnt wifi enabled, otherwise i would have done it through modem. Also i can just use internet connection sharing on the second pc (which is the one with bridged connections) since my isp doesnt allow internet sharing.(blocked with ttl)

Then from what you just stated above, this is inaccurate:

So we're missing the Wifi portion. Are you using a wireless gateway/AP or router?

You can't bridge ports if one of them is used for a PPPoE connection to the modem. It in essence shuts off the protocol. You'll need to ICS. The reason you're not seeing PPPoE traffic is because of the bridged connection.

PC2 (the one in the middle) has a wifi card and an ethernet card. PC1 is connected to PC2 via wifi (ad-hoc connection) and PC2 is connected to the isp modem via ethernet. ethernet and wifi have been bridged on PC2 to allow PC1 direct access to the modem to dial the pppoe connection (which isnt working)

That's my point. You can't bridge the connection on PC2. As long as you need PPPoE to talk to the modem you 'll have to use ICS on PC2.

why? cus windows filters out the packets? weird. Also how will ICS help on my case?

Your PC2 which is ethernet'd and has internet access can be bridged with the ad-hoc wireless connection of PC2 and PC1. The ad-hoc is basically your wireless connection using wireless adapters on both machines (hence if you have ad-hoc you can't use wifi at the same time on a single wireless adapter machine), on PC2 and the ethernet connection to the modem is the LAN.

These two can be bridged.

When you create the ad-hoc you will be asked to ICS (from memory), click yes. Make sure the ethernet connection is already internet accessed.

After you bridge the two, can you screenshot the change adapter settings, and manage wireless setting screens.

Bridged and ICS are two different things. Bridged connections are transparent. No routing. PPPoE needs routing. In order to share a PPPoE connection you have to use ICS which provides the routing needed to support your second PC. PPPoE connections only support one directly connected device, in this case it's PC2. If you want to share that connection, you need the services of a router. That's what ICS does.

thing is, the ethernet connection to the modem has no internet access on its own (you have to dial a pppoe connection first for internet access, and sharing the pppoe connection can not be done with my isp , since they block internet connection sharing!) but i am allowed to connect two pc's at the same time and i thought bridging could help (without using sharing- i thought bridging would act as a switch and not router?!)

i am able to connect my both pc's via the modem (one through ethernet and one through usb and yes both dial in at the same time through the same modem thrugh pppoe to the isp,) but my modem (a webstar 2000 series) doesnt have a windows 7 64 bit compatible driver, so im left with the ethernet interface only

Going back to the initial post, did i read right that you can't connect to the internet with PC2, with PPPoe setup on the modem ???

the modem doesnt have a pppoe connection setup (i cant connect the modem to the isp with pppoe , thats disabled, i have to use windows pppoe dialer - so in a way the modem acts as a bridge to the isp), i can connect to the internet with pc2 (the one in the middle) via pppoe on that pc, but not with pc1 which is connected to the modem via the bridged connections on pc2

This is why you can't use bridged.

im sorry, why? cus if i get a switch then this thing will work just fine (tried at a mates), the weird thing is that why doesnt the windows connection bridge act as a real bridge =/

whats there to screenshot lol, just two bridged connections showing as a new bridge connection...
i 'solved' my problem by using proxy software and proxy cap (tunnling all traffic through proxy) but this is not the best solution as many apps dont work (because dns cant resolve hostnames)

It IS acting as a real bridge. That's why the PPPoE isn't working. Bridged mode is like a switch. No IP protocol. By enabling bridged mode you turn the ethernet port and WiFi radio in PC into a switch. If that's so, then where does the PPPoE come from? The answer is nowhere!

If you tried at your friends house, where was the switch connected?
