I set up the printer (HL-2270DW) following all instructions. It is listed under Devices and Printers with my other printers, but not under Printers. I cannot set it as default printer in Devices and Printers.

When I go to printers -> add new printer -> wireless printer it is found, but it says installation failed when I try to install it. I got no errors following brother's instructions, can connect to the printer settings wirelessly but cannot print.

Any ideas?

Interestingly, I just found that my windows 8 tablet can see and print from it fine. I configured it from my windows 7 desktop though, and this is where the problems are happening.

I have this printer and love it. Did you set its ip as static for your router so it does not change? Also when you install it choose to install the ip address as description and not the one with a mac in it. Then if you can't get drivers for it when it asks you for it out of Windows list hit update and wait (I swear like 8 minutes ) then pick it from the new updated list and it should work. If you go to properties of the printer what type of connection does it say it's using, as in what protocol?

Edit: also are you trying to print directly to it or is it plugged into your network via the Lan cable on the back and your trying gain access to it on the network through a said router?

I used it previously with this computer before I moved and now have a completely different setup. It worked fine before. I set the printer up via ethernet, and it is now only connected to the network via wifi. I did not choose any IP settings, I just went with the defaults on everything.

Windows is up to date, but like I said it worked fine before anyway. I tried initially setting it up via USB but brother's software would not detect the device being plugged in. Windows did detect and install the printer and would print over USB however.

I will try what you suggested and report back, thanks

Looking forward to it. Also what I mean in the router is that it only leases the ip for so long and after a while it will give it another one and you may not be able to print to it. So in mine I have it set static so it can always be found.
