I have a Brothers Laser printer Model HL2270DW. It is Hard wired with Cat5 wire(as well as my whole House) It worked Fine . Now it will not print infact the computer can’t fine it anymore. I have uninstalled the software /driver and reinstalled, still can’t find printe. I have replace the cable from the wall to the printer and from the switch to the Expention board.
I have a Router plus a switch. It is install peer to peer. And no computer on my home network can locate the printer. I have uninstalled the software on a laptop and reinstalled it using connect via USB. And it will print under this type of install.
Now a storm came thru the other day and the power keep going off and on my wife unplugged everything but forgot the printer. But printer will work on USB .
My main computer is connected on the network on the same switch, its still connects to internet I moved the pinter to a different plug didn’t affect it
Could the Ethernet part on the printer have burn out when the power went off and on. I have use a software IP address Finder and ran it,it does not locate my printer either. Anyone have any ideas of what to do next

How long have you owned the printer? Is it still under warranty?

Go to Control Panel --> Device Manager --> try to find your printer (may be under "Disk Drives" if it works under USB). Is it there?

If not, and out of warranty, try this: switch off and unplug the printer completely. Uninstall the printer. Do not use the CD that came with the printer to reinstall. Connect up the printer via Ethernet cable and switch it on. Windows will tell you it has "Found New Hardware", and will ask if you want Windows to find the Drivers from the Internet. Click Yes and let Windows find them.

If this does not work, repeat the procedure but with the USB cable connected, as you say that the printer works from USB. If it works, go to the printer manual/guide and read how to install the Ethernet and/or Wireless Drivers.

Good Luck, this has all worked for me in the past. Windows 7 does carry a lot of device Drivers.
