I am at my wits end. I have scanned for malware using various tools and nothing has shown up. Everything just about works in Safe Mode but once I try the full boot, Firefox stops responding after a bit and IE won't load even though it is visibile in Task Manager, the same with Chrome. Watching a DVD also grinds to a halt after a few minutes of working fine !
I have also tried scanning using cmd.exe to verify Windows files are all OK and there seems to be no problem. There is nothing showing in Task Manager that seems malicious. I have even tried switching AV off for a mo to see if it helps, it does not.

Please help me if you can.

Samsung Laptop, 64 Bit Windows 7 with Norton as AV.

Hi and welcome to the Forum
Can you do a system restore to a point behind when this first started to happen?

When you saw the list of restore points did you lick the box "Show more restore Points"?
Do you keep a back up in the form af an image of your OS?
If not have you tried Windows Defender Offline?

You may have adware that is trying to "call home"/update.

Download AdWareCleaner AdwCleaner Download to your desktop
1.Right-click on adwcleaner.exe and select Run As Administrator to launch the application.
2.Click on Delete button.
3.Confirm each time with OK.
4.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.
Note: You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.

I thought I had succesfully gotten rid of MagniPics but in doing so it seems to have destroyed something on the way out. My system restore has brought it back to life ! I restored to 10-04-2013 and things were fine for 20 mins then MagniPics was back, 8-10 on Task Manager and I was back at square one. Does a restore bring back malware??

Yes, if it was present at the time the restore was created. If you haven't tried using MBAM, visit the following site for a possible solution;

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/chameleon/

You didn't list the different products you tried, so hopefully this will provide a solution.

Please run the Adware (cleaner) application that I posted above!

PUP.Adware.Magnipic is a treacherous virus that performs certain malicious actions on the infected computer. The virus belongs to PUP.Adware malware group that can display unwanted ads to users or corrupt web browsers.
Once PUP.Adware.Magnipic is executed, it dramatically slows down PC performance. Running in the background, it may open your firewall to let more viruses infiltrate your PC. At the same time, hackers will be able to access your computer without your knowledge.
Furthermore, PUP.Adware.Magnipic virus even crashes your system, disables your programs or steals your personal data by keystroke.
It is dangerous to let PUP.Adware.Magnipic hang around on your PC. Sadly, antivirus software cannot completely delete the virus. Every time it is picked up and deleted, but the virus always comes back. This is because PUP.Adware.Magnipic can protect itself by injecting its core files to legitimate system files. To be able to get rid of PUP.Adware.Magnipic, you need to delete all its related files and fix the corrupted registry keys.

Post the results from the .txt log. We will need to finish cleaning this off your computer.

I removed Norton and added Malwarebytes which removed the bulk of the trojans from the system restore!!!! However after two hours of working fine all browsers stopped working again and the computer slowed up badly. I then ran the process above and posted the text file. Nearly there I hope!

Actually no, Firefox just started freezing and now IE and Chrome won't open although they are visible on Task Manager....
