USB Sticks Stop Working After A Few Minutes

its almost done and its found like 7 files? but i have way more

It may be struggling on a corrupt file.....let it keep going if it wants.

Well i think i clicked on the right one to scan, it said F: but then underneath it it said Cruzer which is its Sandisk name so i clicked on tht and it said nothing is there, ie; it cant be read

Mmm. I guess formatting is the last option - sorry we couldn't rescue those files for you.

Let us know if it works OK after the formatting.

yea it just let me copy my iphone pics to my comp, wot i think ima have to do guys is just keep plugin it bak in and out till i can get it to copy across somehow and then just format so thats it i sopose

but now its not working again i cant copy anythin again, it like on and off wen it feels like it and ive been tryin all day and this is the first time ive been able to copy for today

I agree. If he an get the files off, then first get the files off.

What I'm saying is that he will continue to have troubles with that stick unless he reformats and then runs chkdsk over the stick. Even then,the stick may be going south and will continue to be problematic until the stick is discarded. But first a successful NTFS formatting followed by a chkdsk /r

It certainly sounds like its very flaky - its up to you how long you want to persist with it. Maybe try run another chkdsk and see if it "feels" like co-operating a bit longer.....

Nah, its OK. Its definitely on its last legs - we have seen many of those here. A format might breath some life into it.

With the usb stick plugged in,

Read this and carry procedure out.

HOW TO POST A SNAPSHOT OF DISK MANAGEMENT DISPLAY
Run disk management:
WIN | type DISKMGMT.MSC | ENTER
This method gives you a display without the unneeded navigation pane.
WIN=key with Microsoft logo on top.

Maximize the output of Disk Management:
Maximize the output of Disk Management:
ALT-Spacebar key combo | X key (selects Maximize) |
Drag the field separators (such as between Status and Capacity) to show entire field.


Make a snapshot:
WIN | type SNIPPING | ENTER | New
Drag the cursor around the area you want to snip.
File | Save as | select save location and name | Save


Post the snapshot:
Post a File or Screenshot in Seven Forums
