Hi, im kinda new to forums but i need some information about my PC built.

two weeks ago i bought myself a MSI r9 290x Gaming and tried everything to got it running. (drivers bios update etc). it says its bsod error 124. my old gpu works just fine (radeon hd 7850).

now the weird part. ive tried this card in three differend pc's from some friends and it gives the same error. now i RMA'd the card and got a new MSI r9 290x (the firm tested the card and said it was faulty) and this one it also giving me this same error. the error occurs only when doing things like, starting up a game it crashes almost immediatly, when surfing on the internet is also crashes. (like when downloading Directx driver of streaming youtube)

the error code does not appear when i disable the card or when i boot it into safe mode or when the AMD drivers are not installed.

does anyone know what i can do?
my specs are:
CPUcooler: tt Spin Q VT
GPU: MSI r9 290x 4GB gaming
CPU: AMD FX-8530
Housing: Tt Commander MS-I bk ATX
MB: MSI 760GM-P23 (FX) 760G RGVSM
HDD: 500GB
RAM: D3 8GB 1600-11 DragonRAM K2 GEI
PSU: Coolermaster B700watt

I got the dumpfiles here, they are all exactly the same.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/o6muw1h9sdm7nr0/120614-19281-01.zip?dl=0

thanks in advance

greetings
Tom

P.S the second MSI r9 290x gaming has been rma'd to the firm and came back with positive test results.
(they said it worked just fine)

Hi, Tokke89 and welcome to Seven Forums, I will try to help you if I can. A 0X124 is a general Hardware error and it gives no specifics of what the hardware is. It can be caused by failing Hardware or by a bad driver making hardware act like it is failing.

Could I get you to complete your hardware specs in the lower left of your last post. Just click the 'My Hardware Specs' and there will be a link to update them. What I would like is Manufacturer and model of you hardware so I can look it up if needed, and specifically the PSU and CPU Cooler. Please add those as well as any other hardware connected to your computer.

I would ask your friends to test the card in their machine again for a couple of days and try to test their card in your machine.

Also, if you don't mind, please run the BSOD posting instructions
www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html#option2 and upload the file here, it is much easier for us. This will tell you how.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/9733-screenshots-files-upload-post-seven-forums.html

Would you also go into BIOS and tell me the values for your +12V, +5V and +3.3V.

To update your drivers, please use this method:
I am going to give you some links that will help you get a good clean install and not have any drivers you don't need that will conflict with other drivers. Download a WHQL driver from http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/329659-latest-amd-catalyst-video-driver-windows-7-a.html . Once you have them downloaded, uninstall you current driver from control panel. next clean up any left over drivers from following this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/83814-drivers-clean-left-over-files-after-uninstalling.html and select only ATI Display Drivers. After you have done that and rebooted, install the new driver, only select custom install and install only what you have to. Very few people need most of what they include. You do not need the audio/HDMI drivers as you already have that in your Motherboard drivers. Unless there is some reason you need them, the only thing you really need is the Display Driver.

Hello,

first of all thank you for the quick respons. as you can see i posted my further specs in the first post. i also added the bluescreen errors with the diagnostigtool you provided.

second i whould like to mention that ive tried the card inside a friends computer. it worked fine. then we tried his MSI r9 290 in my computer and the same bsod came forth. so faulty card is no longer the issue.

what i see when the error occurs is that first the screen freezes allong with the audio mouse and everything else and the screen turns black and the computer restarts itself. but sometimes, the screen freezes, goes black, and then the screen pops back up saying 'the display driver has stopped working but has succesfully recovered'.

i dont know if maybe sometimes the computer can make the drivers respond again and sometimes not but i think that the drivers stop working is making the computer restart itself.

again thanks for the help.

greetings Tom

OK Tokke89, I got it this time. Please add your hard drives to your system specs and please run Seatools
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/313457-seatools-dos-windows-how-use.html#Part3 on all of your mechanical drives and let me know the results. If it said errors were found but corrected, I need to know.

Also, open an elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

Click Start, type device manager, click on the device manager that appears, click on the small pointer next to IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers to expand it and do the same for any that have a Yellow Icon next to them. Please post a screenshot of that, http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/9733-screenshots-files-upload-post-seven-forums.html

Also post a screenshot of disk management - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/274797-disk-management-post-screen-capture-image.html

hello, just did an seatool scan on the PATA-SATA and USB-1394. i used the short generic tesy and both came back without errrors. however the system got a bsod 124 again in the middle of it. when i ran it again the test were good. so no errors.

my HDD is added to my specs.

also the CMD sfc /scannow thing is done scanning. did it three times and it says 'Windows Recourse Protection found corrupt files and was unable to fix some of them'.

the screen captures are also included in this reply.

again many thanks for the respons!

greetings Tom

P.S here are the values for the voltages":
12V - 12.232
5V - 5.070

If you don't mind, run the short and the long test. I have had drives that passed the short test and failed the long test, and died a few days later. I was glad I ran the long test on them. The voltages look OK, but that is at idle too. What we don't know is what they do under stress.

Hello again, is it oke to do the long test with the graphics card disabled? Because otherwise the computer will Bsod and reboot itself.

Also how do I measure voltages without checking them in the bios?greetings Tom

To answer your question, yes the graphics card does nothing other than allow you to see the screen, otherwise it is not involved with Seatools. Seatools tests the hard drive and nothing else. If your card crashes the system during Seatools, you have some other serious problem. The purpose of testing while booted into the CD or USB is that the drive is not in use and can be better checked that way. The Graphics Card is not put under any stress. The system may be stressed a little, requiring more from the CPU and PSU.

oke well, the test completed. everything past on the long run. what i did mention in the beginnning is that the computer crashes really random. like i said it crashed during de cmd run (only once the other three times i did the sfc scannow it didnt). the bsod crashes are completly random. for example it also crashes at the desktop when there is no graphic activity on the screen. its always the same errorcode and the dumpfile states the same thing everytime.

for some reason i still think it has something to do with the display driver. because when it doenst bsod and reboots. it pops back up and sais 'the display driver has stopped working but has succesfully recovered'. i think that sometimes the graphicscard is fast enough to make the recovery and sometimes its not and windows will bsod (bccode 124) and restarts itself. this BSOD does not occur when i delete the display driver, disable my gpu (the msi r9 290x) or when i boot into safe mode.

i get the feeling that somehow, the new generation graphicscards are in some way not compatible with my motherboard. is this possible?

i really dont know what to do.

greetings Tom

Tom, I have spent several hours digging into your dump files. That led me to know there is something bad wrong with your system. What I found is that the PID of you OS is an OEM_SLP key from a Lenovo system In fact, I believe it is the stolen Lenovo key that was blacklisted by Microsoft before Windows 7 was released. The only way that key can be used is by using a program that heavily alters system files.

Counterfeit installations such as yours contain heavily modified code that causes the installation to behave it unexpected ways. Analyzing BSOD's and determining their causes on these sorts of installations is very unreliable. For this reason, many analysts won't attempt it.

My recommendation is to install a genuine Windows 7. This will minimize the problems you are experiencing, and make subsequent diagnosis of BSOD's far more reliable. Once you are running a Genuine Windows 7 installation, and are still experiencing BSOD's, we will be happy to help you solve them
