Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help me

I have recently purchased a Sapphire 6870 to replace my Sapphire 4870. I replaced the card the other day after a clean install of Windows 7 to ensure that there were no driver conflicts. I find that when I try to play a game, I sometimes get a screen with grey vertical lines or just a black screen, I then get a 116 BSOD caused by atikmdag.sys... I have read around lots of forums and cannot find a solution for this. I am upto date with the latest drivers. I read that it could be a power issue but I have a 750W PSU. It also happens when I first start up my PC in the morning and if I awaken it from standby. It will sometimes work for me and I will be able to play games fine until my computer goes to sleep or shuts down.

It also sometimes crashes on the desktop.
I have also flashed my BIOS to the latest version and ran memtest on my RAM and everything came out ok.

I am now using my 4870 again and everything is working fine.

I have tried numerous versions of drivers all to no success,

Any help is great, i'm running out of ideas, i'll attach some .dmp files

Thanks,
Dan

Thanks for the reply, yes i've tried most of that before and none of it worked sadly :(

I'm wondering whether my card was DoA... It seems odd though as I can sometimes get it working for hours on end... It did start BSODing just on my desktop though.

Als if I was booting up my PC first thing in the morning I would just get a black screen and would need to boot in safe mode and reinstall the drivers to actually get it to work :(

Any other ideas? Can anyone decipher the .dmp files to see what is actually happenning?

Thanks,
Dan

This TDR error is usually caused by bad RAM/GPU/PSU or corrupt driver

Test your RAM with memtest http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html
Test your GPU in another PC and to replicate the issue

Just want to add when testing your ram make sure you run 1 stick at a time in the proper slot ( consult owners manual) and at least 5-8 passes.
