Hello, I hope you can help. My 3 month old Dell goes to blue screen soon after startup. The only program to (visibly) open at start up is Skype. I've checked for viruses and followed your instructions to get to this stage.
Thanks, Bruce

It is caused by Symantec Endpoint Driver.

Hello Arc,
Thanks for the quick response.
Norton's product said I could not uninstall until Symantec was uninstalled (via Add/Remove Programs). When I tried this, I gotr the message that;
The Windows Installer Service Could not be accessed. (I'm currently in Safe Mode as the laptop won't run any other way...)
Seems odd for a basic part of Windows...
What do you think?

I'm fiddling and notice that the Windows Installer Service cannot be accessed in safe mode. I gues I need to prevent Symantec running upon normal startup...

Bruce, if you dont uninstall Symentec, you cannot get rid of the crashes. So you need to do it.

Let us know .... cannot you boot into normal mode?

Still stuck

Hi, the system crashes before Symantec can be uninstalled through Windows. Can I uninstall from the command prompt?

First you stop Symentec form system trey.... or from task manager.

When it is totally inactive, uninstall it. You can do it both in normal mode and safe mode.

Hi Arc,
I was able to Disable Symantec from running through Task Manager in Safe Mode then I had time once restarted in Normal mode to uninstall, run the Norton Removal Tool and reset to Microsoft Essentials.

Thanks so much for your wise assistance on what turned out to be a single line error but I would not have found it without your help.
Have a great week ahead,
Bruce
