BSOD after "Display driver amdkmdap" message

HP Pavilion laptop months old. No new drivers installed or anything.

I tried watching a video on youtube then all of a sudden, monitor goes black and comes back to normal saying:

Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

moments later, the thing BSODs on me and reboots.

I had a similar issue with this last month, and I've never been able to figure it out.

If I had to guess, it would be either a motherboard or videocard issue but I'm not sure. Again this is the second time this has happened after a month.

I had a similar issue with this last month, and I've never been able to figure it out.

I'd pull the dump information, but I've never done anything like it before. If someone can walk me through how to post any and all info that can help me, I'm all ears.

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Start your own thread in the appropriate section of the forum and attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

This one is easy your video driver. Please re-install following below instructions

"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception.

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash. As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds. If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating. Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU. Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference. If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

Now that you mention overheating, it IS an HP laptop, and it's like a frying pan sometimes so I would not be too surprised if that was the case, but I have a cooling fan under the laptop...but who knows. I'll probably give the videodriver re-installation a shot tomorrow, i'll let you know how it goes, and thank you!
