BSOD after long period of inactivity [dxhrkl, dxgmms1 and nviddmkm]

Hi,

I left my computer running for several hours while doing other things (got called away) on returning the computer was asking for my password and some time during my absence the computer had re-started.
Nothing "big" was running though Internet Explorer 11 may well have been (from memory)

It could have been Windows Update that required the computer to restart after installing an update...very common. Look through the Update history to confirm that.

Did the computer physically blue screen? It doesn't sound like it from your description.

I looked at the latest dmp file anyway.......lots of video card references......see if there is an updated driver for your card and try that.

Ah yes - there was a Windows update about a week ago that gave me the option to restart straight away or later. As I'd just turned my PC on, I left it till later.
Looking at some posts regarding that update (from the 4th Jan I think it was) it looks like the option to not restart straight away was a bad one both on my part and possibly Microsoft's for offering it..
I have installed fresh Graphics drivers. It seems it may have been a power saving or even desktop background issue. I have "screen off" set to 2 hours of no use. The crash would seem to have coincided with that.

Hopefully the new drivers and a complete refresh and restart might fix it.

Thanks very much for your input. I will pop back here in a week or so with an update to see whether this is the fix or not.
