Solved BSOD after reinstalling drivers + win 7 on a new hard drive

Hello,

I was in the process of updating my drivers on a new hard drive (Old one failed), after re-installing windows 7 on it, when i got a BSOD. I feel like it might have something to do with one of the drivers i installed/re-installed, but the log's below so feel free to have a look. I've created a number of restore points as well as a system repair disk.

Your single BSOD is pointing at an error with your hard drive. Considering you've already had a hard drive fail it would lead me to thinking your SATA controller on your motherboard sounds suspect.

KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR (7a)
The requested page of kernel data could not be read in.  Typically caused by
a bad block in the paging file or disk controller error. Also see
KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR.
If the error status is 0xC000000E, 0xC000009C, 0xC000009D or 0xC0000185,
it means the disk subsystem has experienced a failure.
If the error status is 0xC000009A, then it means the request failed because
a filesystem failed to make forward progress.
Arguments:
Arg1: fffff6fc8060d4f8, lock type that was held (value 1,2,3, or PTE address)

Since you replaced the hard drive with a new? one, the error must be the SATA cable between the hard disk and/or SATA port on the motherboard. Try a new SATA cable and lets see if the issue still occurs.

Thanks for the quick reply! Updated my system specs, tell me if you need anything else.

Passed the SMART and Short Generic tests, in Seatools, but failed the Short Drive Self Test and the Long Generic test. Ran chkdsk at boot and it came back clean. In the past, i had some problems detecting my old hard drive in the boot manager and BIOS. It'd come up with an error about checking the cable connection, but i didn't think much of it as the hard drive was failing by that point. I have, however, had that error pop up more than a few times with the new hard drive as well. I usually open my laptop up and refit the SATA cable, and that usually works, so i think you might be right about replacing it.

There are no extra SATA ports on the outside of my laptop. Do they usually have more than one SATA ports on the motherboards of laptop computers? Also is the process for replacing the SATA cable on a laptop computer the same as it is on a desktop computer?

Also, I've had another BSOD since posting this. Not sure if it'll help, but i've attached the DM logs for it anyway. Thanks!

Its usually never attempted by DIY'ers because the components are so packed in there.....and its expensive. Your best bet is a specialty store unfortunately.
