Hi,

I keep getting a BSOD after a Windows Critical update. I didn't get a chance to write down the error number, but I was able to run the SF diagnostic tool and retrieve the latest crash dump (attached). If that doesn't work, please let me know and I'll repost next time it happens.

I keep doing a System Restore to the time before the update, and it'll work perfectly for a few boot-ups. Then, presumably, it will re-download the Critical Update and crash on me all over again, so I keep repeating the process.

Obviously, I'd like to just fix whatever driver is causing it, so I can receive the Critical Updates without having to worry about crashing my OS, so any assistance into what driver is causing the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Again, if you can't tell from the attachment, please let me know and I'll update the thread next time the computer crashes by running the SF diagnostic tool once more.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Dan

Hi darwady2.

Please follow this: How to Revert the Win7 1394ohci.sys to the Legacy Driver.

Let us know the results.

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for the help. It's good to know it seems to be originating from my 1394 driver.

Right now, the driver that's installed is the Texas Instruments IEEE1394 OHCI Compliant driver. I tried rolling back to Legacy, as well as just using the non-TI version of the OHCI driver, but both caused my computer to just go to a black screen, immediately after loading Windows on bootup.

So, I'm back to my TI driver now. I do know that the only firewire devices I'm using are my MOTU 8 Pres (link):

MOTU.com - 8pre Overview

The most up-to-date driver is located here, but I'm having trouble installing it in safe mode (it keeps telling me the process is terminating unexpectedly), so I'm trying to get my computer to boot up in normal mode long enough to update the MOTU drivers.

Link to drivers:

MOTU.com - Download (Universal Audio Installer)

Any other ideas here? Doesn't seem to like the legacy 1394 driver.

Thanks.
Dan

Update: I couldn't get the computer to boot up (it kept going back to a black screen after Windows booted up) until I physically shut off my MOTU units. Then I was able to boot in normal mode and install the driver update.

I then turned my MOTUs on after the driver installed, and no problems yet. I rebooted and it seems like it's working correctly.

To note, I still have the Texas Instruments OHCI compliant 1394 driver installed, just updated the MOTU driver here:

MOTU.com - Download

(Installed the new Universal Audio Installer for Windows)

We'll see how this holds up. I'll write back if it crashes again, but thanks again for pointing me in the right direction guys! Just knowing where to look made this problem much easier to solve.

All the best,
Dan
