Hi, i have a problem with Windows and BitDefender, when i installed it the first time (2012) it gave me the same result: BSOD and always the same reason.
Same for the latest version of this year which i'm using right now

I would like to keep using BitDefender but the constant BSOD makes it too annoying so i changed antivirus a lot but always with hope that BitDefender would stop doing this.

The most recent one was 5 min ago. Wednesday i reinstall my Windows because well... getting slow ^^' and today it happened twice

I tried to search the cause of this but with no success.

If someone could help I would appreciate it very much :)

P.S. If there is something that i didn't put in and is needed i'll provide it

Hi DSkySoul.

Uninstall BitDefender, that is the best option for you.

Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
Let us know the results.

Not on the subject of BSOD, I see you use Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus as you suggested me to do. I search a little and it i can see it's a good antivirus but a lot of people say that Microsoft Security Essentials lacks in virus detection, etc... in comparison with other antivirus. What is your opinion on this ? It would be nice to have the opinion of someone who use it and know what he's doing

Yes, it is a very common issue with BitDefender. Not only it, but also almost all third party virus scanners contribute in BSODs.

I dont believe that MSE is any low in giving real time protection. It may be (contradictory) weak in scanning, and that is why I suggested you to use MBAM (undoubted best in this field) for scanning on demand.

There will not be any security issue.

Thank you for the quick answer :) , i used a lot of antivirus but only with this one that BSODs happen, i will try using the option you gave me and in 2-3 days later i'll come and tell if everything's ok.
Again thank you very much for helping with this
It's unfortunate that there isn't an easy solution for this

Sorry for asking another question but running the two at the same time, will they affect each other or everything will be fine ?

MBAM, when it is the free version, it provides a virus scanner only. SO no chance of a conflict between multiple real time protection.

The paid version of MBAM comes with a real time protection too, and that also does not cause any conflict with any other program. It is the specialty of MBAM.

So having the paid version can be a plus in security

Not really, but a mental satisfaction obviously :)

MBAM is the world's best virus scanner, but not really good real time protector. So the free version is really enough, which only scans.

But as I said, the paid version gives the users an extra satisfaction. If you want, you may go for the paid version for sure. Not a big positive, but no negative at all.

Hi again, well i'm not sure who to talk to or how to explain it (even in google i can't find it). Well since i remove BitDefender, at random occasions my pc doesn't reactivate the screen and i can only get back to it by rebooting manually. I leave my pc doing stuff at night and it's already the third time i come back the next day and i can't reactivate it. Do you have any idea what it might be ?

It is not a BSOD related issue. Better you post this issue in an appropriate section of the forums.
