Apparently this is a 7 year old computer, should i even buy a new cd key or build my first computer? Always wanted to build one.

This is a NoelDP wallet warning! Building your own computer is dangerous to your wallet, and addictive! It's also great fun!

The problem comes because it's no longer cheaper to build your own high-spec machine that to buy one. Once you factor in the price of the Windows license, it can cost a lot more than buying off the shelf.

The advantage is that you know the quality of every component in the system (assuming you research stuff) and can replace stuf a piece at a time if you need to (to a point - I'd tend to replace motherboard/RAM/CPU together) - and you can get some gorgeous-looking pieces of furniture to put them all into (or simply put them in a cage - if you get the cooling right!)

If the budget is tight (like mine), then I'd buy off the shelf.
Laptops pretty much have to come from manufacturers - but many will customise for a price.
