Happy New Year!

Happy New Year...

Getting BSODs, black screens and full restarts while gaming. Happens with Titanfall within 5 minutes, CoD Black Ops after 10 to 15 mins, etc. Takes longer to crash with Battlefield 4. This all started on 12/21/14 out of nowhere. When it started, I had an Nvidia 660 ti installed. After I installed the 970 I received as an Xmas gift, it only got worse.

Maybe my crappy power supply?

Specs:

Intel i7 2600
EVGA 970 FTW
8 gigs RAM - DRAM 3 years old
700 watt Xtreme Gear Power Supply XG-700 (also 3 yrs old)
Asus P8P867-M Motherboard
Western Digital 1TB HD...1x 1TB 7200rpm SATA

I've attached the DM log and Crash reports from Blue Screen.

I've rolled back drivers, updated drivers, etc....
I have tried almost every utility imaginable. Hitman, Combofix, CCleaner, MalwareBytes, etc....Nothing has fixed it.
BSODs happened initially on 12/21. I received dump reports up to a certain point and then they stopped. Now, it's just black screens and auto restarts. I've crashed this rig 10 to 15 times yesterday and no report. Sometimes it black screens and hangs...other times it just restarts. Originally, I thought it was the well known Nviddmkm.sys bug. But, I got other errors too...

I've also tested the HDD with chkdsk several times...ran Memtest at least 5 times...

Anyway, Thanks for your time and help. It's much appreciated.

Download this earlier version from here and follow NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems for the cleanest possible install.

Do you have a Virtual Machine running? And have you initiated a BSOD manually?

OK. I'll do the Nvidia re-install. Will that older driver support my 970? I have rolled back the drivers to a version that came out in September of this year, but it crashed anyway. Since that last crash you have in the DM log, I've been unable to create anymore dump files, despite them being enabled. No blue screen...just black screen or restart.

I don't have a Virtual Machine running...And, I did have WhoCrashedIt initiate a BSOD because I was having trouble. It did produce two more BSODs of different types after that you see in the DM report. But, since then, I can't get it to BSOD.

Thanks again...

It won't install the driver, says "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware".

Also, the driver issue happened over several versions of software, for what it's worth.

That sounds like your GPU has a problem. Remove the mains power from your PC and physically remove the card and reseat it making sure it's properly seated and the power connections are fully made. Reboot and try to install the drivers again.

I don't think that driver is compatible with the 970. Never had an installation compatibility issue. I've had no problems installing several other versions of nvidia drivers. But, it doesn't like that one. Also, this issue started with my 660ti...and continues with the 970.

Do you have another PCI-e slot on your motherboard you could test the card in?

I do, but the card is too big to fit in that second slot. Lots of motherboard connections around there....:) I tried, though...
