Related to Bs_def.sys with description Default BIOS Flash Driver is a driver file from company AsusTek Computer Inc.

Did you attempt to flash the bios?

How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

I did try to install the ASUS 7 drivers but haven't flashed the BIOS recently. BSOD happens at random or when I try to install some programs. Most recent was a RTI program for Pro Control remotes. Attached is a performance report and the Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 report. I will update the drivers that you suggested.

As indicated in my last post, and double checked now. The thing (driver) that is crashing the system is BS_DEFS. From my investigation it appears to be a BIOS flash but might be malware


Please download the free version of Malwarebytes.
Update it immediately.
Do a full system scan
Let us know the results at the end.

Just crashed while running Malwarebyts, booted to safe mode and running it again. I do use Malwarebyts along with ESET.

Hi Chris


Whocrashed often incorrectly blames an OS file.

We need to investigate the BF_DEFS.

If you have not attempted to flash your BIOS you should at least rename it to BF_DEFS.BAK

Malwarebyts detedted and removed.
Registry Keys Detected: 1

Renamed to BF_DEFS.BAK

Rebooting out if safe mode, will post back.
