BSOD Driver Power State Failure :/ (going on a full year now, lol)

Hello everyone, and thanks for reading :D

I got my alienware M17xR3 about a year ago now, since I received the P.O.S. I have had plenty of power from my machine like I was expecting, but I have also been having issues I've been attempting to debug on my own, namely the graphics card being shipped with a corrupted bios (LOL) and my connection issues with random networks I use that other people have zero issues with.

But to get to why I am here now.

Since I have had this computer I have been getting driver power state failure BSOD's about 1-3 times in the same day, about once or twice a month. It's one of the most bizarre things I have seen a bugging computer do. When it is working, (I'm still not sure if the GfxCard is, lol) I can render videos at incredible speeds, get smooth fps on many games and generally never get a hiccup. I can even do both at the same time when it wants to.

I can get this BSOD at anytime my computer is on.
I have had it happen thirty seconds after startup. All i loaded was chrome.
I have had it happen five hours into a gaming session with friends as well.
It does not seem to care how much it is doing, it just seems to crap on it self every once it a while.
It really sucks when programming and when typing papers, haha...

This is my first attempt for help on this issue, thanks in advance for any support :D

Your graphics driver is outdated and is causing problems, please update with the latest WHQL driver from here:
  1. Download Driver
  2. Start :orb: Type: Device Manager
  3. Expand Display Adapters
  4. Right-Click Driver Name, Uninstall
  5. Reboot
  6. Run Driver Sweeper
  7. Reboot
  8. Install Downloaded Driver
Driver Sweeper will scan for any left over files from the old driver, old driver files can cause conflicts with new driver installations. Create a System Restore point beforehand, in case any problems or issues arise.

You're awesome.
I have zero idea how to really read an entire index of crash reports. lol
I kind of figured it was something with the gfx card.
I'll try this out.

I see on the driversweeper page that there are multiple options for Nvidia.
Do you recommend all of them available?

Alrighty, I did everything as instructed, it took a while to find safe mode, F8 was doing nothing lol.
Ended up pressing everything from F3-F11 a lot. haha. It worked.

Currently, I am still able to boot. So that's good.
I'm gonna try playing a bunch of HD videos and playing some graphics intensive Vidja Games.

Thanks again :)
I'll let you know if it continues to happen

Well I'm back. :P
I was just chatting in a League of Legends client when it crashed.

WhoCrashed came up with the same lame excuse it always has, "it is likely caused by a driver that cannot be identified at this time." haha

There are a lot of old dumps included.
I just want to make sure you get the one for today, March 26th. It ends in 19999, that's kinda cool, lol :P

Thanks again. :)

FurMark is giving me issues.
I can't above 8% mem usage of my GPU and I'm only getting 8 fps.
But it's staying at a cool 62C.

I'm gonna try something.
One minute

Alright.
So
There are two settings you can toggle.
one is called PostGfx and it slows my fps to 330 and my temp stays at 60C.
The other is fuzzy objects and it bring my fps to 8 and it stays around 63C.
Without them my fps is about 355 and my temp stays at 60C.

The temp is quite level.

I think it is displaying the primary renderer as not your graphics card, since the Intel Graphics are integrated into the CPU/motherboard, did the picture being displayed become distorted in any way?

You could select the Multi-GPU option during setup, to make sure your Nvidia graphics card is being tested.

Or, forgot to mention this, luckily another member (Dsprague) reminded me, you could use OCCT, as explained in this tutorial:

Nope, no distortion.
I'll try the OCCT tests.
I should have results tomorrow. I have class coming up soon.

Okay thanks, and it will produce screenshots, so just zip these up and the post them when the test has completed. All the steps should be listed in the tutorial :)
