Hey, my desktop computer keeps freezing here and there. I have a bad feeling it happens when working with my data HDD (not a system one). Some applications freeze and some not, I can restart, but it gets stuck when "Turning off" .. after few mins I get BSOD.

I've tried to boot up with driver Verifier and it freezes right after login screen .. no BSOD (within 30 mins).

The only thing I know from minidump is that it causes ntoskrnl.exe

Would someone help me to identify my problem?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard.

sptd.sys is the most well known causes of a crash in windows 7. There are some technical reason behind it is that much crash prone. It is a paer of Daemon tools, so better you uninstall Daemon Tools.

Also free up the startup.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept the restart.
Let us know the results.

Daemon tools out...

Hi, I did as you sugessted..

1) uninstalled Daemon Tools
2) unmarked a majority of aps from startup.

3) I also uninstalled Spybot Search and Destroy as I've heard it's not recommended
4) Uninstalled Catalyst Control Center and installed newest AMD graphics driver

Everything was ok during the day, until I started Skyrim and wanted to play for a while. It freezed when loading new location (this is quite common problem of Skyrim, so I'm not sure if it's connected with my problem) I was able to alt+tab to another programs, but it wasn't able to end skyrim process in ctrl+alt+del window so I selected restart. BUT it again stuck on "Shutting down" and after 6 minutes I got BSOD (the same error code as yesterday).

Attached is the diagnostic report again...

QUESTION: Would I hurt anything when I try to install this driver?

Thanks for your help...

I have no idea what is spzo.sys, assuming it is a malware.
can the system for possible virus infection.

A lot of similar issues.

For the port, first, uninstall and reinstall the USB ports drivers.

  1. Right click on Computer icon > manage. It will open the computer management window.
  2. Click on "Device Manager" in the left pane, it will list all installed devices up.
  3. Expand "USB Serial Bus Controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
  4. Click on one item to select, then right click and uninstall.
  5. Do the same for all.
  6. Restart the computer.
  7. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate drivers.
And, Disable USB Selective Suspense too.
USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

For the devices, first, detach all the USB devices other than the keyboard and mouse.
Then, Update the drivers for them all, including the keyboard and mouse, if any third party drivers are installed for them.

Let us know the results.

Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ and see if you find the spzo.sys there. Submit the file to Virus Total

https://www.virustotal.com/

It is a suspicious file, every reference I find is in a malware/virus type thread. A Guy

Hey there, I think I'll have to format and reinstall the system.
I haven't found the spzo.sys file at all.
I have reinstalled the USB port drivers .. there were some Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver

BUT..what happened this evening...I left the computer idle and after 3 hours I've found my 2 volumes (both parts of one physical drive) have dissapeared from system. They reappeared after reboot.
It is SATA WD drive and it runs on AHCI mode. That's why I have a feeling the BSODs are connected with HDD. But I have checked it (chkdsk) and I use it (both partitions) all the day. So it seems to be a random thing. I'm lost and I don't want to reinstall, until I have an idea what's the problem.

Would you recommend a HD diag tool pls?

Cheers.

HDD issues

Hey all, so I finally solved my problem. It was my data HDD as I said above. Removed it, bought a new one, moved the data and everything works fine.

BUT: first off I also reinstalled Win7 and once they started, they informed me that my HDD is wrong and I should replace it immediatelly (I guess I had this warning turned off somehow in previous install???) and they also freezed few times before I got the new HDD.

Thanks for your help anyway. I'll mark the post as solved.
